FYI, I was born and raised in eastern Ohio. Halfway between Pittsburgh and Columbus. I was watching the Penguins before the Jackets existed. I went to OSU.

Deslile and L. Pyett back to CLB with Gaborik.

Do the people who are saying CBJ won't make the playoffs and that NYR are playoff contenders realize that New York is a WHOPPING 0 points ahead of CBJ? One game in hand but still...

Watch, Gaborik will put up 40 next year in the same conference and plenty of them will be against the rangers.

I came in to ask this very question--- the team was at the contract limit, it would've had to have been player for player

I like this deal for Columbus. They got the best player in the deal at the expense of average guys and have a bevvy of 1st round picks in this draft deep to restock the cupboards.

Good for them.

The guy put up 40 last year. All of the sudden 35 games later he's washed up.

Couldn't be more wrong about that.

Gaborik wasn't coming back after next season anyway, this is the right time to move him.

Bingo. The rangers throw top top dollar at FA's like Gomez, Gaborik, Richards, etc. and when thir play starts to fall off, some other schlock GM comes along and bails them out of potential cap hell.

Have any of you watched Gaborik this season for more than a few games? He's a shell of his former self. It's almost as if he's said, "Thank god they got Nash so the spotlight is off me and I can coast a bit." He never had heart and it's showing this year. Plus the rags get 7M off their books for next season when the cap will go down.

Sather is not the best drafter of talent, but he can really trade. Can we send out a memo to have teams check their pockets twice before phoning in a deal with the rangers?

I don't love this trade overall, but if you asked me to choose which batch of players I get, taking into account the salary cap as well, without question I take the Brassard, Dorsett, Moore trio...

How did we not get a 1st out of all that? Holy mother of ****ng God !

CBJ was even rumored to be dangling LA's 1st for a scoring winger!

The return is not bad, I'm ok with it, but for Christ sake a team has no 1st's is dealing with a team with (3) 1st's and is actually willing to openly say they are entertaining the idea of moving one.

I'm just flabbergasted with this ineptitude.

We needed Dorsett?

Hate dealing Gaborik. Glad I won't see him forced to play LW though. Don't like the trade, value is alright, but would've preferred more skill in two players. But well, we need a shake up and Gaby clearly wasn't happy, and neither was Torts...

Gaborik won't be as good in Columbus, and do the Rangers really need more depth? On forward, Gaborik-for-Brassard is definitely a downgrade.
The gamble here is whether or not Brassard can ever live up to his potential. Jarmo and JD are saying no. There's also the question as to whether he needed to go as part of the housecleaning of the players who were part of the country club atmosphere (which included Nash).

Brass also has a very bad contract and he's wayyy overpaid if his production doesn't improve.

While Brass has good games, he's never been able to make the next step. And in NY with a much bigger spotlight, he might end up a fan whipping boy.

It was the right time to move him, you're right. Just the wrong return is what I meant

Good, so that takes care of the 2 contracts over 50 business, then.

If you're a Devils, Islanders, Penguins, Flyers fan, it was a terrible trade for the rangers.
If you're a Rangers Fan, It was a good trade for the Rangers.
If you're a Hockey Fan above all, It was a good trade for both teams.

Truth.

So with the last two blockbuster trades these teams have done... NYR has looked at the core of the CBJ and said "yeah, we want that on *our* team?"

Brassard has been "potential!" for years now, Dorsett takes dumb penalties that impact what he can bring as an enforcer who can score occasionally, and Moore is a nice piece.

Good on ya, Columbus. Your GM is now competent.

Don't understand this for the Rangers. Going forward, you know scoring is still going to be a problem. So....trade a top-end scorer?
