Why is a draft pick in 1992 relevant in this discussion at all?

We definitely traded the threat of scoring. Even though he wasn't producing, teams keyed in on him... Don't underestimate that. We may be tougher, or harder to play against, but we are less dangerous than we were.

Lots of back-peddling on Gaborik around here.

Well, people wanted their depth back, they got it. The Rangers are deep, balls deep in mediocrity.

Gaborik should have went at the draft. Brassard has been on the block since he was brought up to CBJ. Guy has under-performed his whole career. He didn't thrive under Hitchcock, why do people think he will under Torts?

Yay for Dorsett, that's great and all but if he is the only bright spot in a trade for your 40g scorer, yikes.

I don't see Moore making a difference this year.

Hamrlik is twice Moore's age, you really don't see the difference?

Because of Brassard's contract, John Moore is the best piece going to New York in this trade.
What? The guy has 1 year at $3.2M left on his deal. Oh no. Such an anchor of a contract for a 3rd line center with 2nd line upside.

Moving this over from the deadline GDT in case people are interested:

Total: 7.5 (with 1.25mil in farm if they don't call them up)

Brassard - 3.2 mil (RFA 2014-15)
Dorsett - 1.6mil (UFA 2015-16)
Moore - 965,00 (RFA 2014-15)

Total: ~5.8 mil.

Rangers add 1.7 mil in cap space from this deal, three solid players, and the ability to resign Clowe.

Bingo. It's really amazing how hypocritical people can be about player value when it comes to the guys they're giving up as opposed to the ones they're targeting.

But he's right in principle.

If John Moore were to go into the 2013 draft, I doubt he'd go anywhere before the 3rd round. And that's being conservative.

I disagree with that. The guy is already a NHL defenseman. He has top-4 upside as well. 3rd round?

It's debatable. Not saying Gabs can't revert back to form, but this year, playing for us? He wasn't going to. He was worthless here, let's face it. We got pieces that we needed in return for his ghostly abilities this year. If we want to compete we need grit and depth. We have that now.

Playoff hockey. Remind me to find this and quote this when he's an important piece of a playoff win or two.

I thought he was skating? What happened to a week and a half someone posted earlier?

Even so, very few players come to this team and adjust right away. Nash, but he's Rick Nash, come on.

Conservative, but wrong. If he was 18, he'd go around 20-35 overall, most likely. The kid is actually pretty good. He's young and he's got some developing to do still, but he can flat out skate, is good enough in his own end and improving and can carry the puck, make solid passes and has decent offensive upside.

wow, did not expect to read that when I woke up, especially to CBJ, especially without a 1st coming back.

My jersey curse continues, if I own it, they go....sigh

In less than half a season the following players are gone from a team that got within 2 wins of playing off for the cup:

Anisimov
Dubinsky
Gaborik
Fedotenko
Rupp
Prust
Mitchell
Bickel (meh and still in the org)

That is incredible turn over, plus there is the very real possibility that Richards will be bought out by the end of next season. Insane turnover, does this club just have no patience, or is it good that they are always looking to improve (even if they actually don't)?

Brassard has been mediocre his entire career. People here keep talking about his upside, people have been talking about his upside for years now. When is that upside coming?

I'm unimpressed. I'll be sitting here waiting to eat my words on him.

I'm pretty sure Dorsett said himself he's about 4 weeks away when being interviewed about the trade. He's got a broken collarbone, but he would be back for the first round.

I was responding to a post saying Brassard is an equivalent of a 1st this year, so I merely pointed out Hamrlik is one as well. Was just responding to DubiCallyZub.

We sure have alot of love to give.
Having guys like these keep those deflating zero effort losses from piling up. Battle level, compete level, call it what you want, having those guys outnumber the fragile or passive, or mentally soft players does New York Ranger teams good. Athletes are human, and New York is its own beast, simply read how fans on these boards react and talk to each other and its easy to surmise that it takes some thick skin to play here... and keep the detractors off through sheer effort.

Via Twitter he was skating the past couple of days. Just skating, no drills.

They said he would be back with about a week to go in the season. That is about a week and a half to 2 weeks out I believe.

He has been playing for Columbus. Nash was not a ppg player either. He looks pretty good.
