And the population of Pominville moves to Minnesota.
I'm gonna miss him. Happy with the trade, and happy with the direction the team is going, but it's still strange and a bit saddening to see him leave. Best of luck, Pommer.

Sure, he'll score goals in Minnesota, but those don't count.

The population of Pominville will forever be capped at 185.

Small town, but filled with good people.

Pominville finishes his Sabres career:

18th in games played
12th in goals
9th in assists
11th in points
17th in PPG
6th in SHG
9th in shots

A great run for sure.

Good luck Pommer and thanks for your efforts as a Sabre.

I remember when he was a youngster coming up from Rochester, I never would have dreamed of that quiet, humble character one day becoming the captain of this team and reaching some of the milestones noted in the above post. He developed into more than I ever thought he would. We got many solid years of service out of him and today we were able to ship him out for 2 solid prospects, and 2 high draft picks. Wow.

Seems like an all-around win for the organization.

All the best Jason. I highly doubt the folks in Minnesota are going to look back at this deal with the a smile though.

Regarding Pominville:

Always played the game the right way. NEVER questioned his effort, his commitment to the city and the team, his presence in the lockerroom, and his desire to be as much of an asset as possible.

It's often that I forget that the man was waived to start the 05-06 season, and after that time, solidified himself as a top line winger with the ability to score, help, play competent defensive hockey, and strive to get better. His shot is fantastic, he's extremely durable, isn't physical but never shied away from contact, and for the most part, left me feeling relatively safe when he was on the ice.

Rarely, if ever, did I find myself thinking he has trouble playing on a line with Player X, or finding chemistry with Player Y, which is another testament to his abilities.

He took a ton of flak, notably this year, for being the representative and face of an underachieving team. It was right to trade him off for the package that we did, but by no means am I bitter towards him in any way. I think his defensive game was overrated, especially by some of my fellow amigos on our boards here, but that's not to imply he was bad in that regard - just above average to good.

In short, I'm going to miss him for sure. Not sad that he was dealt, but he definitely represented the organization in a manner in which you don't just dismiss or immediately forget.

Wishing him all the best, and hoping that he can be a contributor to a team that makes a deep playoff run (preferably next year!)

Thanks, Pommer.

(just try to deke someone in the shootout, ONE TIME, out West. JUST ONCE!)

Awards:
A couple of things that come to mind about him that have always stuck with me:

- In his first training camp, he impressed Ruff so much he had him playing on a line with Stu Barnes and there was talk of him staying up. They kept him a few days after the regular return point for draftees.
- He broke his leg during the Q playoffs. With his team facing elimination, he dressed and sat on the bench as a way to support his teammates despite the injury from a few weeks before. I always thought that showed a great deal of character/commitment in a quiet sort of way that continues today.

The "Now do you believe" moment is one of the best in recent memory for this team, even if it is now nearly a decade ago. For being a guy who started out as being known as a shooter, he developed into a quality play-maker, a sound 2-way player and versatile. Not bad for someone who had to clear waivers here back in October of '05 to be assigned to Rochester. Considering his production and then today's trade return, it's amazing to look back at that day and think of "what if".

He's always struck me as a gentleman, a guy cut more from the Jean Beliveau/Jean Ratelle mold than most. I'm glad he gets to go to a team who clearly wanted him, who has a stocked pipeline and key stars signed long-term, a place near where he split time as a youngster (Wisconsin) when not in Quebec.

Perfect complementary player, and it sucks that we never had the leadership around him to put him in the best role to succeed. I think he's going into the perfect situation and, as long as things go well the rest of this season and next, I see him re-upping in Minnesota. That team should be a problem with its combination of veteran leadership and young up-and-comers, plus Minnesota should be a great area to play. Best of luck!

IanSabresPR A final note on Pominville: He finished his #Sabres career tied with Miroslav Satan in GP (578, 18th in Sabres history) and PTS (456, 11th).

Hard day indeed.

For young kids like us he was always someone to look up too. Going to be very strange Friday not seeing him out there. Certainly the end of a era for sure. I'm pissed he's gone, ill keep this day close to my heart just like summer 07'. Quite the same feeling like walking on egg shells.

Now both of my Sabres jerseys are useless. Pominville is gone, and Myers sucks, ugh.

Right before the lockout ended, I went to the New Era store downtown and got a nifty Amerks hat in blue and gold (and a Whalers hat). I decided to stop by the Galleria Mall on my back home, wearing my brand new Whalers hat, when I grabbed something to eat and saw Jason eating with his family. I ran to Laux Sporting Goods, bought an "autograph pen," ran to the other side of the mall where my car was parked to grab the Amerks hat, and ran all the way back to the food court in the hopes that he was still there. Luckily he was, and he was alone without his wife and child (thank God, because I really didn't want to bother him when he was with his family). I quickly ran up, apologized for bothering him, and covertly asked if he could sign my hat so as to not bring any unnecessary attention to him. He agreed and was smiling, and asked if I was from Rochester, briefly talked to me about the lockout, and was all-and-all just the nicest he could have been.

Such a class act, and I'll always remember that OT winner as well.

Even know you know it was the right thing to do, it's still hard to see him go. He was put in a position he probably shouldn't have been.

Some great memories though.

I think that the biggest thing that we are going to miss about Pominville is using him as our default pick in Sabres Survivor.

Seriously though, definitely a signal of the end of an era. Even more so than with Ruff being let go.

Pominville will be missed because he is the best example of what was right with the team. It sucks to have to let him go.

Good luck Jason Go win the
