Vanek is gone.

All his buddies will be gone. He doesn't want to stick around for a rebuild and his contract expires in a year.

Might be the minority view, but I'm in a "wait-and-see" mode with Stafford. I'd hold onto him. I want to see what he does with the new head coach. His game isn't as bad as some make it out to be, and he's a big, talented RW that skates well. No reason to rush him out the door just to do so. I want to see how he plays in a new system with a new head coach.

The Jets were reportedly talking to the Sabres about a deal that would send Alexander Burmistrov to Buffalo for right-winger Drew Stafford.

"It's one of those things where at different points in time you're talking lots of different players with lots of different teams and different scenarios," said Jets GM Kevin Cheveldayoff. "This is the group that earned the opportunity to be battling at this point in time for a playoff position."

People shouldn't be getting too upset about this. There's still a chance he'll never play another meaningful game for the Sabres if he gets traded this summer.

And who knows? Maybe if the Jets miss the playoffs they revisit this trade in the offseason.

Either way we'll be revisiting this trade. The price might swing a little more in our favor in the off-season.

Stafford needs to have a collar around his neck. If he holds the puck longer than two seconds he needs to be shocked. He does some things really well but the play dies on his stick because he doesn't anticipate well at all.

That and he loves to skate the puck up the nice and stay within three feet of the boards regardless of the positioning of the defenseman.

Actually, Vanek is still on the team. He's just injured.

I think 4M$ is too much for 5 goals, 13 pts..

He's a guy I'd look to trade, but not necessarily for picks; but for a roster player or two that can be serviceable elsewhere (or another struggling scorer)

edit: if you swap struggling scorers, you're probably still going to have to find a team with a guy priced similarly

(Pierre Marc Bouchard, 4g, 15 pts., 4M$ as well....28 years old....) that kind of thing...

so the tag might have to stay

click this link:

http://wild.nhl.com/club/player.htm?id=8470153

look in parenthesis below where it says LEFT WING - MIN

and remove the dash for phonetic purposes

you're welcome, all

Full stop:

Blake Wheeler 14-14-28

Antti Miettenen 2-2-4
Kyle Wellwood 2-8-10
Chris Thorburn 1-1-2

1.6 + 1.35 + .866 = 3.816

3.816M for our three RWers behind Wheeler, and they have similar numbers to Stafford combined. Teams know we're a one line team. The only other top 6 player we have is Kane, and it doesn't matter which of those three scrubs he's with, all teams cheat to his side and double team him.

Our current solution? Byfuglien at forward.

So you're saying .... That .... You'd want 5g, 8a for 4M$ in one player (Stafford)?

I don't get it!

Perhaps he's able to look beyond the slump Stafford is in and instead at his whole body of work? Seems a non-slumping Stafford (the 50-point guy) would be a quality addition on the Jets second line.

True, true. But shaking him out of that funk is probably going to take a trade or another full off-season.

OR FES getting easier starts in the offensive zone against 2nd tier defenders.

At this point, I think you might as well hold Stafford. He's probably got no trade value right now, but could have a big bounce back next year -- and then you trade him at the deadline.

Why do people keep saying this? He absolutely has trade value. It's just a question of how much.

Stafford is in need for a change of scenary.

Stafford getting moved for burmistrov makes alot of sense and would help both clubs.

Bermistrov is an RFA so if he is signed to a 2 yr $4M-$5M extension then buffalo could eat some of staffords contract to make the salaries balance out.

What i wonder---was buffalo asking for Burmistrov straight up or were they asking for something more included?

If buffalo is asking for more--at the draft one option is flipping picks.

If WPG and MN are division winners this wont be much difference---likely 1 spot.

If WPG were to miss the playoffs or be 7th/8th seed in the east thus drafting around 15-18, and Minnesots is drafting around 22-25 then they could flip 1sts.

Those scrubs I mentioned are replaceable. Having a scoring threat from the right side of Kane is essential to his success.

The guy scored 51 goals in his previous two seasons. That's more than just a threat.

Maybe, but less than a finisher

I hope they look at this again around the draft. Buffalo is moving toward youth and Burmistrov still has a lot of offensive upside/potential.
