Would Jagr be an ideal vet?

It seems as though Jagr is enjoying taking one year deals and playing around the NHL. He's signed with two teams that were not guaranteed powerhouses to date (Dallas and Philly). With this in mind, would Jagr be an ideal UFA to target in a year or two, assuming he is still playing? It's been said that he is content as long as he is given minutes and is on the top two lines with a chance to succeed. It seems as though he would be a nice addition with the youth movement coming in the next year or two and some of our other veterans likely heading out.

He wouldn't come here, he'd have no reason to. I wouldn't really want him even if he did.

why do you say that? From all reports he was a positive influence in the Philadelphia locker room, especially for the younger players.

1 or 2 year deal? Sure. The guy is a physical marvel that takes unbelievable care of his body. He plays through the contact he's taken through the years. I've never read anything about him being a negative in the locker room.

Historicaly, Jagr has gone to whomever gave him the most cash. I see no problem signing him to fill out the top lines and then moving him at the deadline if so desired. It is not as if the team will be to the cap next year.

He would if our offer was the best. He seems to follow the money.

and we will have the cap and funds to make him the best offer; not to mention, a 1-2 year which he would prefer, would likely be preferable for us as well.

He will go for the money and want to go to a team that has a spitting chance.

Buffalo isnt the best locatino---unless at this point in his career he would want to have that mentor/leadership role---especially in a club with quite a few young europeans.

Sure.

Sign him and then deal him at the trade deadline for a draft pick.

LOL

Thats exactly my thought. Have him play until the deadline when someone graduates from the AHL and parlay him into yet another second. Plus he is a vet presence which the kids could use. I dont see a downside really.

Love the idea of signing him as the top bidder then trading him at the deadline for a draft pick or prospect...Give him 4 or 5 million next year, lol...Terry can afford it....

IMO the ideal vet is a guy who can contribute on the PK.

Gaustad, Roy, Pominville, and (soon) Hecht have all left the team in the last year. The only guy we added was Ott.

Entering next year, our PK forwards are:
Ott
Kaleta
Hodgson
Stafford (if he is not traded)

...

Porter and Flynn have seen time lately...but we need another body. We could gamble with Foligno or Tropp I suppose. But getting a vet PK'er is necessary IMO.

He's better than over half our forwards.

Not to sound snarky but as long as he can contribute. He has lost speed but plays more of a possession game these days. However, for this conversation all I care about is one more year.

I would say no because we need to add defensively responsible forwards.

No thanks. It'd be a one year deal in a year where we aren't labeled to contend. Would be bordering on pointless, if not completely there.

Is your aim to have the slowest line in the league with that?

I'd actually be tempted only because of what Giroux and now Benn have been saying about him.

If they had Grigs, Girgs, Larsson, etc. all learn from him for a year (up until the trade deadline), that couldn't be bad.
For what it's worth, I don't think there's a better mentor in the league than Jagr.

From what I saw in the 2nd period, Jagr was a beast on the powerplay. Created chances and cycled the puck well. I'd take him. He's the right kind of vet to have. With that being said, there's not a snowball's chance in hell he comes here. My gut says he wants to retire a Penguin, although would they bring him back after he signed with Philly?
