You can't know for sure? Or are you part of wings management/ownership?

Why would they change? If they stood pat at the deadline, why would they panic now?

Because they have always made the playoffs, took it for granted, not making the playoffs is a whole new thing for basically everyone in the organization (Don't think many are still active from pre-1991 red wings?)

It really doesn't change the big picture. Anyhow. Our management is good enough to understand that.

Because they wouldn't have the goal of sustaining their playoff streak. Maybe they would be less gun-shy to make a trade, rebuild, or something. One can only hope.

I don't think missing the playoffs one year will drastically change how the Wings plan on approaching roster/organizational moves this summer. The things that have impacted those decisions have been signing Dekeyser, Kindl growing into his game, Brunner playing well, etc.

Wings could end up losing every game next year and Holland would think of some lame excuse that absolves him of any responsibility.

High sun spot activity was the reason the Wings didnt win the cup and factor in the increase in gas prices and its pretty easy to understand why we didnt succeed. A healthy mikael Samuelsson and Danny Cleary with a new contract will put us over the top next season.

Does it get old to make up ridiculous predictions like this over and over again?

What's so ridiculous about it? Ken Holland has been making excuses since the 09/10 season. He refuses to change his team building philosophy and it has put the Wings in the position where they need to hope garbage like Dallas and CBJ keep losing so they can have the privilege of losing in the first round.

Because it is under the assumption that a GM would stand pat if they lost every single game in a season.

That's jokes. Even if it is "I am incompetent just like the fans on HF say so" Holland.

IIRC Holland has said this season that he would be more active before the draft and during the off-season. This is also the first time that i've heard Holland use the word "rebuild." Yes, Holland said that this franchise is currently in a "rebuild." Holland and Co. sees what is working within the franchise. Babcock loves the energy and heart the younger guys are bringing, they just need more experience and better in their own zone (Babcock is HUGE on defense first).

I honestly see us making some movements this off-season and back where we should be most likely within the next year or two. Or... atleast on the rise...

I would be shocked if anything major happens this off-season after a shorted, 48-game sprint that featured injuries to Helm, Bert and Sammy for long stretches of time.

The most dramatic thing Holland is likely to do is bring up Tatar and Nyquist for next season, sign Brunner and let Flip go, all of which would seem sort of inevitable at this point.

I don't realistically see him buying out anybody and/or bringing in a guy like Horton for the top 6, or any "drastic" changes for that matter. Sammy, Bert, CC, Q...they will all be on the roster next year.

Missing the playoffs could really be a gift for the Red Wings. Thanks to their history, they are now in a mode in which they'll do whatever it takes just to make the playoffs. If they miss out this year they won't have the 21-year streak haunting them anymore and hopefully it will turn their focus into making the organisation what it's supposed to be; a long-term cup contender.

This will require making some difficult decisions, starting with the buyouts this summer. The current lineup is sadly quite far from a cup contender. Hopefully Kenny is up to the challenge.

Why do you think the Wings are in a mode in which 'they'll do whatever it takes just to make the playoffs'? Because currently, they haven't done anything to help ensure a playoff berth.

Ok, maybe I should have said their main goal is to make the playoffs, which is not the main goal of a legit cup contender. And if the Red Wings aren't a cup contender, something is wrong. Major changes have to be made but if their 21-year streak is preventing the changes (changes which might cause a year or two of not making the playoffs), a non-playoff year could end up being a gift.

Today I have mixed feeling on the Kings ans Sharks. If the Sharks lost the WIngs can get close same with the Kings, I say one team at a time and go Kings, Go Oilers and go Canucks. That about summs up tonight.

Two points for both Minnesota and St Louis and LA San Jose went to a 3 point game. Not good. We need DRW to win against the Flames now not to lose important ground. And hope for point loss for Columbus against the Ducks.

So many 3 point games, too.

Time to see how bad the lads want it tonight.

Well, when you don't have a #1 Dman or a pure goal scorer or a 4th line or a power forward or a decent PP or a decent PK, your team is going to have a hard time being any good

Wings need to get at least 1 point out of Vancouver after blowing this one

In the previous matchups the past few seasons, they seem to wake up and take Vancouver more seriously. Good matchup for them because they aren't a more physical team.

I wonder if they'll start Luongo after his last two outtings against us..

I still don't understand how bi-polar this team becomes against weaker matchups. So many easy points lost. No heart.

Edit: Columbus ties it late in the 3rd.. We still have a game in hand.

The weird team is the way that the real bad western teams (Nashville/Colorado/Calgary) have routinely lost games against teams fighting for playoff teams these last few weeks.

But not tonight
