Don't you find it odd that with all these games that they have been winning lately they are still only two points ahead of the 9th seed? Not to mention they have played one more game.
Columbus is a terrible team. Let's not pretend the Wings and Jackets are fighting for the division crown. They will get annihilated by the Hawks just like the Wings if they make the playoffs. Not saying you are implying that, but just agreeing with you.

Wings are far more talented than the Jackets. This team is a disgrace considering who they are fighting for the 8th seed.

Uh, I'd say they deserve it more. They were the worst team in the league for half the season and pulled themselves out of it with strong play, organizational changes and getting good acquisitions.

We have played the same mediocre-to-bad hockey the entire season and done nothing about it.

The Wings in general have been frustrating. They should have been good for a spot between 6-8 without this kind of hair pulling, but as of now they are going through the motions and hoping the rest of the league does their work for them.

There isn't really much to be excited about with how dead the team is.

No they weren't. They have been winning at a consistent clip with a few streaks in, but their "hard working" and "inspiring" game has been pretty much the same most of the season. Don't forget Sheriff Bob (never got that joke) playing on fire like Mason did in 2010.

If their amazing hard working game and Vezina goaltender still don't make the playoffs, how can you possibly say they deserved it?

What? At the one month mark they were dead last in the league, and stayed there until March 6th. Coming from last in the league to contention in just over a month is at least commendable.

Now look at the wings. A month in, 9th in the West. March 19th, 7th in the West. April 18th, 9th in the West. The wings have been consistently mediocre-bad the entire season.

I wasn't talking about the bluejackets 'style' of play, I was talking about the results. They went from a team that found new and exciting ways to lose hockey games night after night, to turning it around. Meanwhile the wings play like they've had a president's trophy locked up for 2 months while playing weak opponents and losing points. If somehow in your universe that means that the wings deserve an 8th spot more than the cbj, I don't know what to tell you.

I agree that this team has been consistently bad.

There is an illusion that the defense has improved, but in reality they have just cut down on the crappy shots/scoring opportunities, but still giving far too many easy scoring opportunities.

The offense has gotten way worse.

Columbus has gotten hot and the Wings have been the same sinking ship since they were blown out by the Blues on opening night.

3 Big games tonight.
Phoenix @ St Louis -- Phoenix is six points back of Cbus but has two games in hand. Phoenix is nearly on the ropes. St. Louis is 3 points up on 9th with a game in hand. A win would really cement them in the playoffs. The Blues haven't been very good at home.
Vancouver @ Dallas -- Dallas is two behind Detroit and four behind Columbus, with a game in hand on Detroit and two on Columbus. That's pressure to win. They're home, and they've not been very good at home. Vancouver needs a win to keep Minnesota away. Falling out of the division lead this late would be pretty tough.
Columbus @ Los Angeles - Columbus needs at least a point out of this game. LA is battling for home ice in round 1.
Minnesota @ San Jose - Minnesota is 4 points up on ninth. Two points would solidfy them. SJ, like LA, is looking for the fourth place spot and home ice in round 1.

Kari Lehtonen currently keeping Dallas afloat in their game. I love/hate him.

Phoenix has 1 point so far, can they get the extra 2? I think if we lose to them on Monday I think it's time to hop on the tank train. Lose the last couple of games & move up a couple of spots and gain some of those important % points.

3-1 Stars. We'll be in 10th in 15 minutes barring a big comeback by the Canucks.

No shock Bench is very active tonight when the Stars have a chance to tighten the noose around Detroit's neck.

It does have death for Seth though.

Let's just say we lose the next 5, where would we be picking?

We'll know if that's truly the case if Gustavsson gets some starts.

4-1. The Stars are ****ing hungry. Both Dallas and Columbus smell blood and they are pouncing.

thank you St. Louis.
Phoenix really can't afford many more games without 2 points.

Looks like Dallas has their two points.
If Columbus wins...

It might be time to start toying with the team Sweden world championship lines

I'm looking forward to the final game of the season in which the winner will go onto the playoffs.

That started out as a joke, but it's pretty serious now.

Probably not close to Seth, don't even think we would sink to the top 10 in a meaningful way maybe 9th or 10th if they lose every single one.

I didn't even bother scoreboard watching tonight. If Detroit can't win their games, does it really matter?
