It's like teams decide to lose because it will help the jets if they win

Maybe the Leafs are deliberately tanking so they can play the third seed?

NJD brings it to a 1 goal game with 37 seconds left. Can Boston hold on?

I tuned in to see the Marchand injury and I think Shanny does a very good job in these video's of laying it out and stating his case. IMHO he is spot on with his breakdown of this hit and the ensuing suspension.

Yet it would not be a blast but at the end of the day he has definitely taken this dept to the next level. I like his use of video and explanations….very fan friendly

The process has definitely been more transparent since he took over. I think they get more right than wrong, though I usually think the penalties are a little light. I still wish that if a player intentionally injures another player, that the offender wouldn't be allowed back before the injured player returns; but that will never happen.

Yea I would be down with this punishment especially with repeat offenders.

I would be fine with this as well for repeat offenders as long as there was a minimum. Which is to say if someone cross-checks another player in the throat and breaks his stick for instance, and the victim only misses one game, the offender IMHO should still serve a suitable suspension.

So something like:

A suspension equivalent to the amount of time missed by the injured player but not less than X games.

So an illegal hit that happens to cause the other player to get a consussion and he misses the whole season should be a season long suspension? But an identical hit where the player doesn't get concussed and is fine to play the next game is a 3 or 5 game suspension.

Sounds pretty ludicrous to me.

Yup. It should always be the intent, NOT the result that gets punished.

Fair enough. I was just trying to draft the wording for a "not less than" clause.

Success gets rewarded! If an offender tries to injure another player, but doesn't succeed, he gets whatever suitable punishment is deemed sufficient; but if he succeeds in injuring the other player so severely that the other player misses a large chunk of games, then the offending player should be rewarded for his success. Why should he be allowed back before the player he intentionally injured? I still realize this will never happen, though.

I agree. It's the fact that the NHL and talking heads have used the results of incidents for so long as the measuring sticks for the punishments, instead of the intent which has led to the current state.

After the flak they took in 2011 SCF, I'm glad that Shanahan's making it more transparent. Stuff like 'not having the father of an active player that's playing in the SCF as the chief arbiter of suspensions'.

That's only if it can be proven that it WAS intentional to injure the player. Most suspend able hits are "questionable" for a reason, there is little evidence the intent to injure was actual intent to injure. Rather they are just dangerous hits and league wants the example set that those hits are not allowed.

Yeah, intent can't be proven (even when it's obvious). Makes it tougher to only punish based on intent though...
