Scout mock drafts: NHL scouts agree -- Jones will be No. 1 pick

NHL scouts agree -- Jones will be No. 1 pick
Thursday, 04.04.2013 / 9:00 AM / 2013 NHL Draft
By Mike G. Morreale - NHL.com Staff Writer

The gurus of NHL Central Scouting will put the finishing touches on their final rankings for the 2013 NHL Draft when their final meetings start Friday.

While those final ratings won't be released until later this month, NHL.com couldn't wait that long. In the interim, two veteran NHL scouts -- one representing a team from each conference -- were asked to provide their first-round projections in exchange for anonymity.

The Eastern Conference 'guru' forgot Sean Monahan on his list.

Soooo apparently according to the "Eastern Conference Scout," Sean Monahan will not be picked in the 1st round

I imagine leaving Monahan off was an error, not actually his list. If not

Brutal mocks for the Sharks. They absolutely will not take a big defenseman in the first round, and if by some anomaly they do, it won't be ****in Marco Mueller.

And the second one is just as bad. Who the **** is Michael McCarron besides a big skater.

One has Columbus taking 2 defensemen in the first round

The other one I thought was pretty good though, coming out of the draft with Lindholm and Mantha. I likey.

Hard to take somebody who makes such a glaring omission seriously, eh?

I gotta give credit where credit is due and say that Jones probably deserves the #1 billing, but I think it'll come down to which team actually picks first this year. Imho, there are plenty of scenarios where Jones is not the first pick.

This might just be the best list released today where Mohanan is not a first round pick and Standings are a month old

Sean Couturier did not play for the 67's. Monahan's fault again.

I'm not sure the Wings need a defenseman. They have solid d prospects coming out their ears. I'd love to see Nill draft Wennberg, but I think he might go just before the Wings pick.

At least you got good defensemen, as opposed to Mueller who's a second rounder or some guy I've never even heard of at #14, and I've done a lot of draft research.

I was wondering that too. I hope it was just a mistake...

Why do you dislike Mueller so much? He's by far the best player on Everett and he played well against the dominant Winterhawks.

Sharks do need a d-man, but they could use forwards as well.
Boyle is old and might be traded sooner than later too. Burns has been playing forward. No real top pairing guys after them.

Some interesting choices in there. A testament to the talent and depth in this draft. The McCarron prediction was a head scratcher.

Because the Sharks have drafted Nick Petrecki and Ty Wishart in the first round. Because I firmly believe you don't draft a defensive defenseman in the first (or second, for that matter) round. Because Despite what you've said, Marc-Edouard Vlasic is a 25 y/o top pairing defensive defenseman.

I don't care how good Mueller plays on the Silver Tips, he does not fill a need when there are so many other better player I'd rather have there. Hell, if we took a defenseman I'd much rather it be Josh Morrissey. I'd take any of the players that mock has with the next ten picks over Mueller. Mueller may have raw upside, but Petrecki supposedly did too. You don't take defensive defensemen in the first round.

And lastly, Burns may be playing forward, but the intention is for him to return to defense.

I like the one where we got De La Rose. Will disregard the opinion of the guy who thinks Monahan is a second round pick...Chris Bigras...lol.

Dickinson at 11?

I will cease to be a Stars' fan if that pick were made.

The other one wasn't much better.

I don't think it's guaranteed that Jones goes first overall, but I think the team that might pass on him would end up regretting it for a long, long time.

Is Lindholm really going to fall so far? Monahan over Lindholm? Man, I dunno...

One of those scenarios is also perhaps the most likely: I'm not sure how marketable Jones would be over a premier forward like Drouin or MacKinnon.

Then again, with divisional games against Toronto, Montreal, and Detroit next year, I'm not sure how important that is lol.
