Mistakes, bad luck deflected pucks, bad luck loosing exges...all happens in hockey..BUT the play of the goalie can offsdt all such scofing chances by opponents..to put it in perspectives Crawford was mediocre in this game and FAILED as the offset to mistakes and bad luck...FAILED to stop enough shots necessary to win the SO.......meanwhile Bishop stops all 45 shots to sgymie Carolina..Crawford mediocre...Bishop a wall...goaltending can bail you out,but mediocre goaltendingmeans mistakes, bad luck, and poor play willcost you games...and so it did last nighf...

I think Emery has shown this year and last year that his timing and focus is 100X better than Crow even though he's not as skilled. That's what you need, we don't need a perfect record or the best save % but we need the guy to stop the odd man rushes and third period goals when the game is close. Our forwards can do the rest.

I'm not completely against it but I also haven't seen enough bad from Crow to seriously consider it. I think he's still got a good hold on the starter spot right now.

It is but the refs haven't been calling much for a fair number of games now. I like that Handzus and Toews can take most of the draws - that should help a lot, but our PK hasn't had a lot to do lately. Fingers crossed that it doesn't go south at an inopportune time.

The PP is another story and remains a very sore spot. It's time for this new guy Kompon to earn his money. A good start would be for 7 and 2 to switch sides at the point.

Outside of the blowout in Colorado, all of Chicago's losses have been close games. If you consider choking in the 3rd period a stinker, then I can see where you're coming from.

I find the fact they went 21-0-3 then 6-5-1 worrisome.

Except, you know, not having Sharp and Hossa and playing some pretty damn good teams in that stretch.

About what you should have expected without two of the hawks top players.

Injuries happen you have to find a way to overcome, and Sharp and Hossa haven't missed all those games.

Plus it's a whole team effect right now, they where winning the games then but I said early in the year the third period collapses would haunt this team and now they are. They seem to come out in the 3rd tired and disinterested and get out played by a wide margin. Remember all the way back to the Calgary game where they got outshot 24-6 in the 3rd period.

Sorry if you expected the Hawks to win 80 % of their games this season. Don't know what to tell you.

If being basically .500 doesn't concern you over the last 12 games I don't know what to tell ya. Denial is in your blood. Record would have been much better without three third period collapses recently. But that doesn't concern most because of the overall record. They need to get better goalie play. D is not so bad giving up 22 shots last game, maybeMonty is in the cards if Odoodoo keeps playing like he does.

yeah, generally i agree with you. but at the same time...i also feel that the rest of the team has enough depth that we should have come up w/ a better record...if that makes any sense.

probably not. they're a confident bunch...and i remember their "path to the cup" threads from last year...before they lost in the first round to the flyers.

i get your point, though...i'm not just being an idiot.

as an aside...i'd love to see the pens go down in the first round again. but that's another thread completely

I'd like them to win more games but I'm not going to be overly worried because

A) Any team is going to struggle without two of their top players in terms of cap hit and production.
B) The record hasn't been that bad. 6-5-1 is not great but it's not pathetically awful like we've seen this team play in stretches the past couple of years.
C) Small sample size and there was bound to be some regression to the mean with the way the season started.
D) Hawks are still in first place.

I'm not expecting an easy walk to the Finals like Pittsburgh. Wouldn't be surprised if we did win it all but wouldn't be surprised if we lost in the first round either. After all, half of the Playoff teams don't get out of round 1 and only a quarter make the Conference Finals. If the Hawks lose in the Playoffs I will be disappointed but I'm not going to cry about it, at least they've had an enjoyable season.

why?

Hawks made the POs with the starting streak and have nothing to play for in the RS anymore. They are talented and good enough to finish the year with .500 and that is more than enough to win the Division and most likely the Conference too.

They can step it up and they don't play at 100% right now

Haha! They should be. I mean, jeez, don't you find it just unacceptable that they would be 1-2 after winning all those games in a row? They should be pissed that they aren't undefeated, even playing without Malkin and Crosby for parts of the year.

Obviously (I hope) you know I'm joking... Folks should take a step back from the ledge. In the last 10 games, only four teams in the entire league (two in each conference) have earned more points than the Hawks- Pitt, Wash!!, Van, and SJ. I'd take that the rest of the season.

I am a bit concerned that Q seems to be going back to his line juggling ways. A lot of it is out of necessity I realize but I'd like to see the first 3 lines set as soon as possible. If Morin is going to play in the post season he should be here right now. On the other hand, it may be that this team will adapt much better if Q does shake up the lines on occasion. For the most part, this team has been together long enough to get some chemistry as a team but entering the playoffs, we need some momentum like we had in the first half.

I missed most of the 3rd period, OT and the SO. I was hoping to see the highlights on the main Hawk website but can't find them there.

Does anyone have a link to the highlights of the last game?
