Better budget cap space for him - he is going to get a serious raise at contract time.

The laws of leafs physics does not agree. We must eliminate one, just like we did with Rask and Pogge.

What a stud, very happy for Gardiner. He's starting to get more physical, too.

This kid is back to playing with the confidence and swagger we saw last season. He looks like he believes in his play.

I was like the only one defending the kid. Atleast it felt like it. People were saying how awful he looked and how he was a disaster defensively. What a joke. They wanted to run the kid out of town. Probably the dumbest thing I've ever seen because I don't have a memory that lasts 3 weeks. I remember how great he was last season, what he was capable of, and his potential. He's taken another step forward in these playoffs and has shown he could be a franchise guy potentially.

Not many people possess Gardiner's abilities. It's amazing how quickly the haters forgot that.

Gardiner's hit on Lucic made me laugh then I was impressed. He hit someone else hard too, forgetting who though.

Jake has played better as the series has gone on, he still has a tendency to gamble, but that is his game.

It will always be part of his game, it's okay when your positives outweigh your weaknesses.

He has made strides this year from his awful days as a Marlie, when he was not even the best D man down there. Eakins and Randy agreed, but credit to him to get more confidence by Randy by learning through tough love what Carlyle wanted from him.

Gardiner is better for this, Randy a former Norris winner knows what it takes. Credit to both.

Lord knows how many nasty habits Jake would have if Ron Wilson was still his coach.

You weren't alone. He was never that bad defensively if you applied the same lens to others. I said it already, his first game, he made two bad passes right out of the gate, but he continued to play and grew from there. Now look at him.

Gardiner breaks down D structures, against a team like Boston that ability is invaluable.

He kind of reminds me of a midfielder in soccer/football. He sits there and isn't afraid to come back in to his own zone till the others are ready to go.

Kelly I believe. He also took out Peverley although more of an off balance bump.

His game is night and day from earlier this season, he was making too many bad decisions with the Marlies. If people were mad at Dion for pinching, then they would have been going berserk at Gardiner for some of his pinches down on the farm. That's what Carlyle was noticing. He's a young player and all he needed was to listen to Randy, maybe he has gotten the message. No one here doubted his talent, it was always his decisions, even his biggest fans cringed when he turned over the puck when he was recalled.

Even with his turnovers he was much better than holzer/fraser/kostka/o'byrne.

we hurt our team this year by not playing one of our very best players.

People on this board have the tendency to label anyone who points out a player's deficiencies a 'hater'. Fact: In the games he played in the regular season he was a turnover machine and made dumb plays. Fact: He seems to have gotten the message and plays like we expect him to play.

Most of the 'haters' never doubted his talent or the positive impact he can have on this team, it was just that he wasn't playing well at all this season up until now.

Who exactly was running him out of town? Don't be so melodramatic.

He had a couple of bad turnovers in his first game back in as well but the last couple he has been fantastic.

Amazing isn't it? Agree 100%, this post should be stickied.

The people calling him awful, not cutting him any slack whatsoever, calling for him to get sent back down to the Marlies, and the people saying he should be traded while he still has some value.

Those people are haters, you need to cut kids some slack especially defensemen.
