Slightly OT, but Franson also looks really good on that pairing. Guy's playing a punishing physical game for the first time in his life this year.
His physical play tonight was great. If he can bring that every game he is going to be a 25+ min D-man.

Bieksa is a slapshot that fights.

He's not a good defenseman.

Sounds good, how is Vin Diesel's skating?

Carlyle on Gardiner after game 6:

"Jake's a puck-moving NHL Elite level Defensemen"

Finally, he gains Randy's trust! Hurray!

i think he always had it, but he wanted to challenge him, and before: let's be fair, Jake wasn't that good. He's AMAZING now.

(and just imagine him with a training camp).

No way I move him in the near future. We have a couple exciting defencemen with Gardiner and Rielly so I say we take full advantage of that. He's come alive in this series so I say we enjoy what we've got here.
Skinner, Duchene, Kuznetsov, Tarasenko, Couts, Galchenyuk, ROR can be considered.

I would do seguin for gardiner actaully. He disappeared this series (so has rest of the 3 lines of the bruins) but his potential is higher than gardiner.

He has probably been the best skater in this series.

This.

Leafs need to avoid Bieksa.

Gunnar would be an ideal partner for Jake... just gotta find a #2 guy to pair with Dion.

Bogosian, JayBo, Tyutin, a bunch of expendable #3-4 guys that just replicate Gunnar so it wouldnt really help. Take your pick. The Leafs could go after someone but its much more likely they simply sit and wait for Rielly since he'll slowly rise up and be able to play with Dion, though the guy I'm more looking forward to seeing if he can hit the NHL is Finn since he's a smooth skating two-way guy.

He still is soft in his own zone. Goes the wrong way misses assignments. Can skate like the wind and passes great. Maybe move him to wing. Great pass on the OT goal though

I've been a huge gardiner fan but he's definitely got his issues to fix in the defensive zone. He needs to be a bit more physical but most importantly he needs to give it his all, he seems to glide to the corners (casually) for pucks instead of skating and trying to get the puck out of his zone as soon as possible

One of the only Leafs d man that I enjoy watching. He makes skating look like walking.

Had a brilliant series. Looked like a legit top pairing dman out there. His play in his own end was the most exciting to see. Too bad the winning goal came off his stick. The body of work was great, just hope he doesn't dwell on it too much.

Franson skated right in front of him when he was trying to clear which threw him off.

Gardiner was fantastic all series.

Do like SJ did with Brent Burns and turn Gardiner into a forward.

I disagree. I would flip Phaneuf for Bieksa if Vancouver would take it. They're both very similar types of players (high risk/high reward), so it wuld be a lateral move in a sense, with positives on each side.

(Vancouver) Phanuef is younger and signed for shorter term.

(Toronto) Bieksa is a right handed shot which would give our d core more balance, his cap hit is only 4.5mm compared to 6mm for Phaneuf, and losing Phaneuf would allow us to give the C to someone more deserving like Lupul, as well as allowing Gards to play first PP unit.

Gunnar Bieksa
Gards Franson
Fraser Holzer/Obyrne/Blacker

Bruins fan here....kid is a silky smooth skater. Thought the series changed when he came in game 2 IIRC.
