Hey if Ottawa is going to drop out of the playoffs Jersey will have to muster enough points to squeak in

I'm actually really happy to see the Capitals and Ovechkin do well. I've always liked their team for some reason. They definitely deserve better than the start of the season they have a very solid roster.

At the same time it's also sweet that it screws the Jets over whom I hate. All of a sudden they have the most arrogant and cocky fans in the league. They also suddenly think they are rivals with the Leafs it's annoying. Glad to see them spiral downhill

Sens fans will just use their injuries as an excuse if that happens. Infact, I think they'd use their injuries to explain global warming as well.

Its a pretty legit excuse.

Where would we be without Kadri, Dion, and Reimer? Lupul and Gardiner probaly equal there other injuries.

Yep. Credit to Scrivens for doing an admirable job as backup, to the D for giving him decent support, and to the coaching for keeping us righted when Reims went down

But lets not forget that Carolina was down to their third string goalie. Thats a really tough blow. The D wasnt able to support him.

Purely based on points in the standings, it should be based on the Devils as closest team in 9th place. With 40 from 39, they can at best get to 58 points. Since the Leafs have 46 points, magic number based on that would be 12 +1 = 13 (Since the Devils could theoretically still pass the Leafs in ROW as they could still get 22 if they win everything in regulation) Realistically though the Leafs should hold all the tie breakers over them, already won the season series as well.

One site says Leafs are in with 54 points.

Don't forget Devils play Sens once and Rangers twice if they take those points those teams don't.

Leafs are ahead of 4 teams, although one is SE which get the free pass, but only one of them gets the free pass.

The New York Rangers are the most valuable NHL franchise at $1.2 billion, taking the top spot on the Forbes list for the first time since 2004.

The magazine said Tuesday that Montreal is second at $1.18 billion, followed by Toronto at $1.15 billion.

Yeah, 52-54 points is all they need to get in.

I hope they keep pressing and get as many as they can. It's always better to go into the playoffs on the back of a winning streak than a losing streak.

Let's see if they can continue to play at a 100 point pace.

Yeah, I figured the mutual games would cause some lost points and lower the bar a bit, but so far not the case yet.

Going by: http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/feature/?id=9731

Say if the Devils win every possible game (in regulation or OT), they will have 58 points. (9-0-0 in the last 9)
If the Islanders win everything but the game against the NYR with that game going to OT, they have 59 points. (8-0-1)
If the Rangers win everything but the games against the Devils (losing those in OT), they have 59 points. (8-1-1)
If the Sens meanwhile win everything but against the Devils, they have 62 points. (8-2-0)

We can totally discount the SE in this picture since they are essentially fighting for a single spot within the division (or would cause a lower magic number)

In this scenario, we'd need to stay above the Devils. In the above scenario, the Devils won all their games, leaving them at 22 ROW. Theoretically the Leafs could get all their points from shootout wins and OT/SO losses. In this case they would stay at 21 ROW, meaning they'd need 59 points to make it.

Of course this scenario is about as likely as me winning the jackpot in multiple countries on the same night, but purely in theory it is still possible, and leaves our magic number (which deals with every possibility) at 13.

Realistically it will take way less to make it (heck, the Devils have 13 ROWs all year and several teams below us are icecold), but it is theoretically possible. Considering the Devils would need to go better than 7-2-0 (in which case they always lose the tiebreaker) for 54 points not to be enough for example. As the number of games remaining will go down, our high ROW number is also going to be impossible to beat for teams below us, which effectively would cause us to 'gain' a point for the magic numbers.

Sweeping the Rangers would also help btw, will drop our magic number to 5.
