Re-sign Whitney?

He seems to be coming around. He seems much improved since the beginning 9f the season...maybe he has turned the corner. Would he or the team have interest in resigning?

I'd do a one year deal at league minimum.

He would be on my bottom pair. Behind Schultz, Smid, Petry, Schultz and maybe Klefbom. Fistric would be the number seven.

3 mil seems pretty high, I guess if Whitney continues to play well offensively.. but he still struggles quite a bit in his own end..

I would be comfortable with 2 years at 2.5

5% chance he will come back.

He wants to head closer to home.

Hopefully not, I understand he's doing ok right now and good on him for stepping up but he shouldnt have a place in our D ranks moving forward. Hopefully Tambo recognizes we can contend for the playoffs next year and ships out some of the trash

One year 2m
Two year 3.75m

I dont see him resigning though. I bet he could get more on the open market and more playing time in a top 4 role on a weaker team

What kind of lunatic pays $3M for a bottom pairing defenceman?

I think Whitney would be smart to sign a 1 year deal with whatever team signs him this summer. Another year of being healthy should help him have a better year next season, which would allow him to sign a bigger contract the next summer. Whitney would be silly to sign more than one year when his perceived value is so low AND the cap going down. Bad situation for him this summer in that regard.

As far as the Oilers go, I wouldn't mind 1 year at around 2.5. If we could get him for 2 years at that price, I'd do that as well, I just don't think Whitney would sign that (as said above).

Someone will offer him a 3 or 4 year deal and he will accept it. We won't but someone will

lol. our d corps is arguably average at best. considering most people on this team saw him as a 7th-8th D based on his play how is he top 4 anywhere?

Why would he resign when the team hasn't shown confidence in him and were shopping him up til the deadline. The only reason he isn't gone is the team went on a run.

He will get to choose where he plays next year. It won't be here.

I'd do one year for sure.

He's liked in the locker room and still has the best offensive instinct on the blue line.

Knows when to pinch in and whatnot.

He lacks speed because of past injuries and his gaps aren't where they should be.

Sutton UFA (some say his career is done)
Fistric UFA
Peckham RFA
Habby (UFA and should be done)

oilers have 12mill to sign those guys

Wild cards are
Lander
Klefbom
Musil
Marincin
Teubert
Hartikinen

On the D-line next year
Shultz, Schultz, Smid, Petry, and Fistric

For me, I want Fistric resigned because he is the perfect 6-7 Dman that most team need and want.

For me, with the four guys signed, Fistric resigned and Klefbom, Musil and Marincin will be up and down all year long---- if we keep Whitney--lose Potter quickly(as fast as we can)--however-we have issues on our D-line and we need a tough Dman who can play 20minutes a game-- we do not have one right now

2 more years of Whitney is ok if the cap hit is around 2 million.

Gagner RFA - Resign at 4.5 AAV
Maggs RFA - Resign at 2 AAV
Jones UFA - Resign at 1.5 AAV
Pettree UFA - Gone
Smithson UFA - Resign at 1.5 AAV, trade or waive Belanger to gain 350k cap space
Whitney UFA - Resign at 2 AAV
Sutton UFA (some say his career is done) - Gone
Fistric UFA - Resign at 1.5 AAV
Peckham RFA - Gone
Habby (UFA and should be done) - Gone, sign new backup at 1 AAV

Total is 13.65 million, cap wise it might be best to let Whitney walk and have Klefbom take his place unless cap can be cleared elsewhere.

That's what I figured

Of course, he could sign with the Florida Panthers and be a top 4 guy, be closer to home and make more money.

Or

He can stay here and be part of something bigger than him. Being a guy who was traded off of the Penguins right before they won, then shipped out of Anaheim to us to endure a rebuild, I think he would want to be part of a winner.

Just my hunch.

If they did, I would hope for a 2 year deal so that when deadline day comes around next season he'll have a little extra value since he won't be purely a rental player.
