Hopefully not, I understand he's doing ok right now and good on him for stepping up but he shouldnt have a place in our D ranks moving forward. Hopefully Tambo recognizes we can contend for the playoffs next year and ships out some of the trash
I think Whitney would be smart to sign a 1 year deal with whatever team signs him this summer. Another year of being healthy should help him have a better year next season, which would allow him to sign a bigger contract the next summer. Whitney would be silly to sign more than one year when his perceived value is so low AND the cap going down. Bad situation for him this summer in that regard.
As far as the Oilers go, I wouldn't mind 1 year at around 2.5. If we could get him for 2 years at that price, I'd do that as well, I just don't think Whitney would sign that (as said above).
Sutton UFA (some say his career is done)
Habby (UFA and should be done)
oilers have 12mill to sign those guys
Wild cards are
On the D-line next year
Shultz, Schultz, Smid, Petry, and Fistric
For me, I want Fistric resigned because he is the perfect 6-7 Dman that most team need and want.
For me, with the four guys signed, Fistric resigned and Klefbom, Musil and Marincin will be up and down all year long---- if we keep Whitney--lose Potter quickly(as fast as we can)--however-we have issues on our D-line and we need a tough Dman who can play 20minutes a game-- we do not have one right now

2 more years of Whitney is ok if the cap hit is around 2 million.
Gagner RFA - Resign at 4.5 AAV
Maggs RFA - Resign at 2 AAV
Jones UFA - Resign at 1.5 AAV
Pettree UFA - Gone
Smithson UFA - Resign at 1.5 AAV, trade or waive Belanger to gain 350k cap space
Whitney UFA - Resign at 2 AAV
Sutton UFA (some say his career is done) - Gone
Fistric UFA - Resign at 1.5 AAV
Peckham RFA - Gone
Habby (UFA and should be done) - Gone, sign new backup at 1 AAV
Total is 13.65 million, cap wise it might be best to let Whitney walk and have Klefbom take his place unless cap can be cleared elsewhere.

No, he hasn't, and has in fact stated many times that his preferencee would be to stay here.
That's what I figured
Of course, he could sign with the Florida Panthers and be a top 4 guy, be closer to home and make more money.
He can stay here and be part of something bigger than him. Being a guy who was traded off of the Penguins right before they won, then shipped out of Anaheim to us to endure a rebuild, I think he would want to be part of a winner.
