fair enough. Perhaps I overreacted or I took it the wrong way. If this is only 1 isolated incident from him going forward, I'll chalk it up to him being genuine.

The dumb part is anyone who ridicules or laughs at something they haven't seen or understand. It really shows their lack of class and ignorance.

Just based on a literal translation back into Russian, I'm guessing the phrase actually meant: "what is going on?" rather than "what is this?" I don't think it's unreasonable for him to be confused. That also lines up with his explanation of being confused because it was the first time he saw them on CBC.

Quote:
“I just didn’t understand what was going on,” he said. "I’ve never seen that before. They showed the picture of those two guys and … I’d never seen that before.

“It’s always Canadian or U.S. guys that do [the commentary], so I was just asking ‘what is that? how did it happen?’”

for the record, Nazem Kadri and Yakupov are the more high profile Muslims playing in the NHL. Kadri is Lebanese, and Yakupov is a Tatar.

Being a minority and a muslim in N.America, I'm pretty sure he's not racist. But it does reflect on his maturity by posting ethnocentric tweets. He's a high profile athlete for crying out loud, even Bisonnette knows better.... they get training/classes on how to deal with social media.

Really??? Turbans mistaken for bandages?? must be some wound! *facepalm
Your buddies need to read more man, you don't have to see things to know about them.

Huh...
Didn't know Yakupov was Muslim.
It does make it a little more innocent...
In my opinion.
He might really just be confused.

Should part of tolerating other cultures include tolerating cultures' ignorance of other cultures?

Yes...
But often difficult.
Some people do get very offended...
When a statement just feels so wrong...
Even if there is no malicious intent.

That.

also

Hilarious that Minny may miss the playoffs altogether after insisting that they are the same class as us in their one-way rivalry. As a longtime practitioner of trapping hockey, complaining about our defensive play when our lineup was devastated; and to top it off, mortgaging their future (Larsson will be as good as Koivu) for 1.3 years of Pominville.

I find it hilarious Calgary has moved themselves out of the top 5 in the draft that's fantastic news for the division.

I could not care less about what people say about me or other people, there is freedom of speech and people are too sensitive, also people have a way of judging people all the time, for being different, having different points of view or thoughts, even the most offensive thing any one has ever said is not that bad IMO. Now when people blow up Innocent people just because they believe something different, or what ever screwed reason, that is true evil. Just my 0.02

this, we can't preach free speech and then go after everyone who says something we don't agree with

The kid can basically speak English. Even when he does, he speaks in direct translations from Russian to English.

We won't know if that is an ignorant/racist tweet or a careless/harmless tweet. At this point you have to give him the benefit of the doubt.

True, but having to play as few as possible helps our chances. Of course the Nucks have almost no control over it but one can dream...
