Ask this again in September and I might hazard a guess yes or no but at this point I'm cheezing out with the not sure answer...have to see what Roy and Sakic do or don't do with regards to the one-way contracts on D and the fact that I'd like to see some movement with forwards to get a better feel for if Roy and Sakic want to keep the three centers together or will consolidate to make two scoring lines.
Yes, but not because of coaching, because re-alignment / new division.
Yea this is my thought as well.
Although, with our current roster + Jones and Sacco as the Head Coach, I don't think we would make playoffs.
Roy will make a difference, but I think the biggest reason we will be a playoff team next year is because I think Nashville and Dallas have sort of entered into a rebuild/retool. I expect both of them to be a little weaker at least next year(NSH especially). I think those two will make up the 7 and 6 spots.
STL, CHI, and probably Minny are locks for a playoff spot. And I think it will come down to WPG and COL for the final spot(I think Minny could end up as the #4 seed though, but I don't think they will miss playoffs).
And IMO, we have a stronger team then WPG. It should be a tight battle though between the two of us and possibly Minny or Dallas.
Too early to say, without seeing what happens with the draft and free agency. Right now I'm leaning for a qualified yes because Avs historically do well against the teams in our division. Only St Louis and Chicago are really locks for the playoffs, which leaves us battling Minnesota and the rest of the Western Conference for a playoff spot. If you assume that LA, Vancouver, SJ, and Anaheim are going to make the playoffs, that leaves us battling the likes of Calgary, Edmonton, Phoenix, Dallas, Nashville, Winnipeg for a wild card spot if we can't pass Minnesota. With competent coaching we've got a fighting chance, but I wouldn't put it any higher than 55% as things sit right now.
This thread is slightly premature. There is still finding out who the new assistants will be (not sure how much this will affect the team), the draft, July 1st, and any trades between now and then.
Without all that done yet, it is hard to say. One way I could see it happening is if Elliott, Barrie, and EJ excel under Roy's aggressive use of the defencemen. If they all chip in offensively and skate the puck lots, the team will already be better off than last season.

But before everyone jumps all over me for it...I dont think we will be far off. I think we will miss by 5 or less points. We will be in the hunt but still missing a piece or two and needing some maturity from our #1 pick.
