We should be looking to upgrade at center to put Backes as the #2 center for offense.

Two of Berglund, Perron, Stewart would be moved IMO to make it work salary wise, but they don't have to be in the same deal. Cole is another piece that could be traded.

Who could be available and what would teams want?

Our only "cap dumps" are players with trade value. Part of the reason we'd have to move 2 of Berglund, Perron, and Stewart.

Depending on who the Avs draft this summer, something around Stastny for Berglund could be interesting.

Or, if you're wanting to end up with less salary some how out of the deal, maybe Stastny + _____ for Berglund + Cole.

The player I really really want to see in a Bluenote would be Backstrom from WSH but I doubt he will ever be available. As I said in the Blues trade thread I would give Berglund+Perron+Cole for him but again doubt he would available.

Highly depends on what we do at the draft. But something like that makes a ton of sense.
But I really would prefer to drop the 2nd rounders. Our 2nd should be a late first basically. Especially if the Devils forfeit their pick.
Maybe add a prospect from COL instead.

And again some people get it and some don't. It doesn't matter how much disappointment you have as a fan in a player you are expecting a lot more, player being Berglund. Now with the Blues organization depth at center being almost bare. Berglund is going nowhere, plain and simple. The main reason you get a #1 offensive minded center, is to push Backes to where he belongs....the wing. This team needs to deal from the strength and not its weakness. But again, unless Armstrong just gets a gift from another team. It is not likely for the Blues to get a #1 center for the wingers that we would want to sent out for that center.

Another reason as to why this will not work is the salary number this player will have to be paid from the Blues. Just not feasible, especially with Boumeester's contract and the Petro/Shatty up and coming contracts.

I feel like Ennis could fit that mold, but not sure what St. Louis would offer to peak the Sabres interest.

You do realize Backes didn't break out offensively until he moved to center. His defensive abilities would also be wasted on the wing. I guess you're right though some people just don't get it.

I think we'd try Schwartz at center before trading for Ennis. Would Hodgson be unavailable?

Most likely, he's everything we could've hoped for up till this point. Unless someone blows our socks off, I don't see him leaving.

I doubt you'll find any centers better than Backes that are available.

Crosby, Malkin, Stamkos and Giroux won't be moved... that doesn't leave many people.

Sedins won't be split.

Maybe you can get Jamie Benn from the Stars for Berglund + one of the other two.

Not sure if you are vastly overrating Backes or misunderstanding me. We need an offensive upgrade over Backes, the defensive side of it isn't that important. We need to let Backes handle shutdown duties and someone else take care of the top offensive minutes who will go against the opponent's top defensive pairings.

There are plenty of players that fit that, just comes down to who is available.

You might be able to sign Roy in the offseason. He's been very reserved about whether or not he wants to stay in Vancouver long-term.

Plekanec could be available. He seems a bit more offensive than Backes. He's also very responsible two-way and he can penalty kill, so it would help make the Blues a threat at ES, PP and SH. Backes Plekanec 1, 2 centre punch would be pretty solid.

Berglund/Stewart. No Perron, please. Great player and all, just don't see the need for yet another small player.

I'd love Sobotka, but he's a great bottom 6 player and cheap. I'm guessing St. Louis laughs when he's included in a potential deal ?

I know Pique has size, but he doesn't offer much going forward and Barcelona would want too much for him.

I've always kind of like Pleks, but Sobotka would be a no go. He's just one of those players that winning teams need to have.

Would be ideal. What's the realistic possibility that Joe would be moved. I know us fans have agreed to a few different deals for him.

I'd take Berglund over Statsny any day. The Avs should be adding to that for contract reasons.

Backstrom would be ideal.
