Because a BC team is expensive to run being so far away they probably figured it would be the only one.

Yes they will do that, but when they look at how to best manage the AHL team next season, it will not be affected by the Luongo trade or the Playoff failures, they will compartmentalize there decisions, they will not say, we need to succeed in putting an AHL team somewhere this season, because we are already taking a lot of heat for the Playoffs.

You can look at all these isolated things together If you like, but IMO letting playoff outcomes and trades cloud a point of view about the AHL saga, will make things look 100x worse, and only lead to negativity.

So dreger was on the team 1040, said he talkd to gillis recently to ask him about the farm team, and gillis claimed nothing was done yet.

But dreger said hes fairly confident and has several sources saying it will be in utica, and be called the utica commets....

I guess we will find out soon.

Smart move by MG if true...
If the Canucks do poorly in the next couple seasons he could be out of a job
This would be a great way to pick up of flyer miles before then
I would have gone with Hawaii myself

I'd rather our prospects have less in-season travel and a longer trip for a call-up, than the reverse.

Oh man that is gold. Props.

It is definitely better for the Cnaucks to have their own AHL franchise and I don't think Utica is a coincidence since they were the city trying to lure in the Heat. Perhaps we see a swap next season?

Rumour is that Calgary was interested in moving the Heat to Utica for the next season, but it didn't materialise. This way the Canucks could have a team in Utica for a season before potentially switching with Calgary.

A Utica blogger is optimistic the Canucks AHL team is coming to his town:
Quote:
Yes, a new video scoreboard would be needed, new locker rooms would need to be built, where there is a will..... Plus, those involved in putting it all on the line to have an AHL team in Utica aren't accepting, not only my calls ( all of a sudden ), but others as well who have been in the media loop of information. Silence is golden. I'm rooting for the locals because the Mohawk Valley will benefit, when all is said and done.
For some reason I'm unable to paste a url into the link box, so here's the whole thing:

http://www.uticaod.com/blogs/x398676...eturn-To-Utica

My uneducated guess is that the Canucks will need to help with the costs of the arena upgrade that Utica needs in order to meet AHL standards.

So, the Canucks are willing to pay for arena upgrades and other features for Utica, where they may not stay after a season; but wanted Peoria to pay 1.5 million for no arena upgrades and just for the honor of keeping their team an extra year?

Not disagreeing with the smoke/fire rumors of Vancouver/Utica, but I think some of you need to do some fact checking into who's cutting the checks for Utica's arena improvements...

A self-acknowledged uneducated guess that the Canucks will help with the costs doesn't require fact-checking. It makes no claim to being substantiated. But if you want to do some fact-checking, go ahead. Everyone will be grateful when you share the results.
