Because you'll be scrutinized in ways that many athletes struggle to deal with. Not everyone can handle that.

You're also trying to rig the argument. You could just as easily say, why doesn't every big FA sign in the sun belt if it doesn't matter?

That's not true. He would be an idiot to think that one season in the NHL was going to nab him a big payday; especially at the position he plays. He isn't Orr.

I'm confused, some Edmonton fans call us babies, yet those same people are still whining about the Pronger trade 7 years ago? Interesting

Oiler fans think they gave the Ducks Pronger.

Well, Ducks fans don't understand the heartbreak of losing a player as important as Pronger after going to game 7 of the playoffs.

Because money absolutely matters, just not in this case, when the money offered was as close to equal as it gets.

didn`t they got Eberle with that one pick? And Smid was their best defenceman for many years.

But they are probably right, since they are from a traditional hockey market

And like I said, i really think you're grasping at straws with the whole marketing stuff. He's going to a team with four or whatever number one picks, he's not going to be the center marketing attraction, or even top three.

After this season, hed prolly land what say 1.5-2 million on a deal? That's a big payday to any college kid I know. All I said was he pushed that back by a season, which is 100% true. I think money was actually far from his priorities when he made his decision.

Fine...there aren't more opportunities to supplement your income in Canada. I just made all of that up.

Waiting an extra year for a second contract gives him a chance to sign a bigger contract.

It's a wonder any player leaves with all that endorsement money laying around. When was the last time a big FA signed with any Canadian team?

Fair, but still he takes himself an extra year away from said payday and he would have had that option whether he signed in Edmonton or Florida. To me I think he would've picked Edmonton regardless of money opportunities.

I really hope Getzy plays tonight. He would be a nightmare on the Oilers defense.

Funny I remember a player that fits this description as well, and he is still hated 10 years later.

All said no and the first 4 broke contracts or their words. Nash almost did what Schulz did, we did regain a 2nd however.

We were poached of almlost every good player from 1992 to roughly 2005 because of $$$.

Hell we had Gretzky sold to cover gambling debts.

I know not the same, but I don't think anyone had the same heart ache in terms of losing players for nothing or pennies on the dollar than Edmonton.

That being said, best of luck the rest of the season to the Ducks.
Yeah but you got plenty of assets for that group and all of them made it painfully clear they didn't want to play for the Oilers. Schultz lied and left the Ducks with nothing.

This is a hockey forum? What's hockey? That thing on ice where they score the ball in the goal?

Schultz isn't a 1st overall pick.
