Ex-Oilers daggering us - Is it true?

After D-Vo's 2 goal performance, I decided to take a look at some stats... Does the ex-Oiler curse really exist?

Glencross - 6-3-9 in 26 games
Dvorak - 9-12-21 in 23 games
Torres - 6-5-11 in 18 games
Brodziak - 4-5-9 in 20 games
Cogliano - 1-0-1 in 5 games
Stoll - 5-2-7 in 16 games
Moreau - 1-1-2 in 14 games
Souray - 2-3-5 in 14 games
Penner - 1-3-4 in 11 games

I think we are making a mountain out of a mole hill.
Other than Dvorak who only played here for 2 and some years out of his almost 20 years career, it's not really a big thing.

I'd worry a lot more of them daggering us by talking to other players around the league about how crappy our org is than them scoring on us.

This. It has been happening for a very long time going back to the Weight era of players. I doubt that has changed.

I didn't even know Dvorak still played until he went all Dvechkin last night.

Wow, Dvorak just feasts on us. I wonder what Ray Whitney's stats against us are. He always seemed to do well against us, or so it seemed to me. Was such a huge mistake to let him go...

I think the one that hurt us the most by far (since the Weight Era) was CuJo.

That was also a huge result of him playing on far superior teams that could afford his monstrous salary.

Ray Whitney is 16-15-31 in 40 games.

A true dagger.

Off course they do that. Do you not think that if there was a FA in Anaheim for instance or his agent and the oilers had expressed interest that they would not go and have a chin wag with Sheldon Souray or Cogliano about their time with the oilers?

Do you not think these dudes don't talk on the golf course, at the lake cottage in the summer etc? Of course they do.

I don't think it's just the numbers, but it seems to me that Ex-Oilers have a habit of scoring GWG, GTG and Shootout Winners against the Oilers. I don't have any numbers to back it up, but quite often it seems like that happens.

Kind of unrelated, but this thread prompted me to do a case study on Tyler Arnason vs the Oilers

2008-2009
6gp 1g - 0a - 1pts

2007-2008
8gp 5 - 3 - 8

2006-2007
8gp 4 - 7 - 11

2005-2006
3gp 0 - 0 - 0

2003-2004
4gp 2 - 2 - 4

2002-2003
4gp 2 - 1 - 3

In total
33gp 14g - 13a - 27pts
0.42 goals/game
0.39 assists/game
0.82 points/game

His career average for each corresponding stat
0.18 goals/game
0.32 assists/game
0.50 points/game

Tyler Arnason was THE Oiler killer

yep--this is not a new thing

Players get their energy up against their former team--you can create a list for every team and fill it with former players who seemingly play better against former team--it is call the F U paradigm

Vs Oilers Career
0.35 0.54 - Glencross
0.91 0.48 - Dvorak
0.61 0.40 - Torres
0.45 0.40 - Brodziak

0.20 0.43 - Cogs

0.14 0.31 - Moreau
0.36 0.40 - Souray
0.29 0.53 - Penner
0.78 0.82 - Ray Whitney

Did a quick calc (so could be errors) and it looks like the only real Oiler killers are Dvorak, Torres and Brodziak.......sorry about formatting....

perhaps. didn't he only get like 10 games? he might have been the right player at the wrong time and not a good fit with the type of team the oilers had.

you could be right though. he sure didn't get much time to see if he'd gel with the team.

The timing has more to do with it, than the actual numbers. The ex-oilers seem to always get the game winners or the final nail in the coffin.
