He's not ready. It's a tough situation for both sides.

He's playing tonight. Tropp is out. First game under Nolan, I hope he does well and proves he can stick.

I agree with this:

Kris Baker ‏@SabresProspects 51s
I still think getting Grigo on right halfwall of a PP unit could get him some momentum. Leverage skill/vision. "Position to succeed"...

Can't say the kid hasn't faced some adversity in his young time as a pro. Remember as well he was set to lead the Prospects team into the Traverse City tournament only to be informed last minute that he was ineligible.

I hope he can pull it together. He does have a tremendous skill set and I would like to see him have the chance to develop it fully.

A top shelf Grigs makes this rebuild go a lot smoother.

It's a tough situation because even in the Q Grigs was a power play specialist. He and Drouin were the two best in the league in my viewings. He's not an underwhelming 5 on 5 player but he's wasn't dominant at it even in a "lesser league". But young players generally don't just slot into PP units unless they've worked to get there. I guess when a team is this ****** people want to think why not just try it but Hockey is very old school on principals. Being a PP specialist may be the only way he consistently puts up points in the NHL at the moment though. At least until he fills out. Underdeveloped guys who don't work hard and are 19 generally don't find much success in this league 5 on 5.

I think a lot of the problem with Grigs is that he wants to win over coaches by putting up points when he could win them over just as easy with hard work. Roy said that he would show him game footage after a game and Grigs would be happy because he put up points and thought that meant he worked hard and when Patrick told him that he didn't work hard Grigs was utterly confused at the statement. He just doesn't get it yet but I think that he will eventually. Even his statement yesterday shows that he still doesn't get it. He admits he hasn't worked as hard as he can put he put up most of his points in the last 4 games so everyone should love him.

Nice to hear Zadorov complementing Grigorenko on helping him with his English while Zad's was in The Boof.

Long-term, I think this is going to be Grigorenko's bread & butter.

I think a good part of Grigorenko's future role with this team is riding on whether or not we end up with Reinhart. If we get him, I'd be all for saying to hell w/ it and moving Grigorenko to wing.

Come to think of it, a post rebuild second scoring line of Girgensons-Hodgson-Grigorenko sounds downright splendid.

I think this is the most accurate sum up of Grigorenko's issues that I've read on here.

This the best part... is it possible they didn't understand the rules?

The typical 40-game requirement that awards an accrued season was also prorated to 23.4 games due to the shortened season. Unfortunately, Grigorenko wasn’t sent back to junior until the Sabres played 27 games. Although Grigorenko was scratched five times, the rule is counted by games on the active roster and not games played
I dont remember having this discussion at all at the time....

Teenager Mikhail Grigorenko (51.09%) is the only #Sabres player with more than 10 faceoffs taken and a better than 50% success ratio.

His hands are so damn good, as is his ability to read things. Throw in his pretty decent leverage from being a taller guy and it makes sense that he's succeeding at something almost all rookie centermen struggle at.

Boo yeah Grigs.

I obviously want my Canadians to do well, but they have no Sabres prospects on the team

I'll be watching the other teams mores.

He should dominate the WJC's. Hope he can bring some momentum back.

I never looked at his Facebook, it's hilarious. Does he live with Miller or something?

So wait... Mikhail runs his own fan page on facebook?

https://www.facebook.com/MIkhailGrigorenko
"Official Mikhail Grigorenko fan page"

But posting and putting up pictures as Mikhail himself... what?

It's all very confusing, hahaha. I'm pretty sure he runs it.

Why do people set themselves up to be let down like this.

Expect him to NOT dominate. To NOT be a top scorer. To NOT help the Russians go far in the WJC. That way you're not disappointed and rag on the kid for not making a huge difference.

And if he's the exact opposite, it's a pleasant surprise. I expect him to not suck, but not be a huge asset pouring in a ton of goals either. He probably won't even be within the top 10 scorers in the WJC. Not close to dominating.

The sabres have absolutley ruined this guy - For a guy who was supposed to be a top 5 draft pick before he got injured, this guy just lands in the Sabres lap at pick 12, so much talent and potential and they just blown it everyway imaginable.

Ok drama. At 19 he's far from ruined. Relax. Deep breath.

Please. The Sabres aren't responsible for his warts, of which there are many. It was a very big mistake to have played him past 5 games last year for a lot of reasons, but they hardly ruined him. It's silly to talk of him being ruined. If you watch him play there's every reason to think he can be a good NHLer in time. He needs to improve on his skating and his strength, then leverage those into being a more aggressive player in puck battles. He has the frame to be a guy who is competitive in those battles, but right now he's both physically underwhelming and, much of the time but not always, too timid. There's probably some cause and effect there.
