Friday can be a very good or a very bad day for the Wings.
They can really help themselves with two points and tie Minnesota, who would have a game in hand.
But if the Wings lose without getting a point, Phoenix could tie the Wings for 8th win a win over Calgary.
And if Dallas beats Nashville, they'll be one point back with a game in hand
Both Dallas and Phoenix are on the road.
Columbus is at home to the Blues. Columbus can't afford any more losses. If they lose to STL and Detroit wins, the Jackets are in tough shape. But they can be right in the thick of it with win and Detroit loss.
So--- if all goes well--
Columbus wins Blues Lose
Detroit would be tied for 7th with 46 points, have a shot at moving up, and put some distance between themselves and the teams behind them.
4th LA 41G 50pts
5th SJ 40G 49pts
6th STL 40G 48pts
7th MIN 40G 46pts
8th DET 41G 46pTS
9th CBS 41G 43Pts
10th PHO 41G 42pts
11th DAL 40G 41Pts
If all goes poorly
If all goes poorly:
7th MInnesota -40G 46pts
8th Detroit - 41G 44Pts
8th Phoenix - 41G 44pts
10th Dallas - 40G 43pts
11th Columbus 41G 43 pts
Detroit's final schedule
@Vancouver vs Phoenix (April 22)
vs Nashville @ Dallas
The Wings are fortunately to have two Nashville games and a Calgary game on their schedule.
It seems unlikely, but if Detroit can start their road swing off with a win at Chicago and pick up road wins against Nashville and Calgary, we're in good shape.
I think we need need at least five points on this road trip. And then if you win the Phx game when you return home, I think we're in.
But if the Wings blow it against Chicago and then finish with 3 points on the next three games of the trip, things are going to get really, really dicey.
