Montreal has been playing above itself. Coming back to earth. What I find interesting is that neither Boston nor Montreal seems to want to win the East. Clearly, both would prefer to go through Pittsburgh as opposed to Washington in round two.

So who would you guys/girls choose for the NHL awards - the Hart, Norris, Vezina, Calder, Selke, and Jack Adams?

Not so much what I'd choose, but more who I think the finalists (in alphabetical order) will be based on what I've read from different media outlets:

Hart: Crosby, Ovechkin, Toews
Norris: Letang, Subban, Suter
Vezina: Bobrovsky, Niemi, Rask
Calder: Gallagher, Huberdeau, Saad
Selke: Bergeron, Datsyuk, Toews
Jack Adams: MacLean, Quenneville, Therrien

Jack Capuano should at least be nominated for the Jack Adams Award. From 14th place to 6th place at the moment is impressive.

Winners in bold

Hart: Crosby, Toews, Ovechkin
Norris: Subban, Suter, Chara
Vezina: Bobrovsky, Lundqvist, Niemi
Calder: don't have a strong opinion on winner, would be fine with a number of guys
Selke: Toews, Bergeron, Dupuis
Jack Adams: Don't care about, usually a case of what bad team from last year had the biggest bounce back.

This is what I love about the Media. They spent 40 games going, "Wow, how is Montreal doing this! I didn't think their roster was this good!!! Is this for real?"

And then when they actual play to expectations, "WHAT HAPPENED TO MONTREAL?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?"

Hart: Crosby, Ovechkin, Toews
Norris: Letang, Subban, Suter
Vezina: Bobrovsky, Niemi, Rask
Calder: Gallagher, Huberdeau, Saad
Selke: Bergeron, Dupuis (homer pick), Toews
Jack Adams: MacLean, Quenneville, Therrien

Pretty much agree with Waffle Fries' top-3 for each category. Who I think *should* win in bold. I have a feeling Crosby's missed games will cost him the Hart, and I think Suter will edge out Subban for the Norris.

Hart: it's going to be Ovechkin because of how bad they were early in the season and how drastically his turned fortunes changed the whole team's play. Sucks, but hey... it's reality.

Norris: tough one but I'd say Subban edges Letang.

Vezina: not sure / no clear favorites

Calder: Saad (just to get the Draft angst started sooner "We should've drafted Saad; Pittsurgh boy now he won Calder... good job Shero!" )

Selke: Dupuis wins as darkhorse to make things right in the world

Adams: Tough to not give it to Capuano or MacLean. Any other choice is weak, IMO.

I believe Crosby's missed games will cost him some first place votes, but what he has working in his favor is that he will likely be towards the top of mostly everyone's ballot.

I think the fact that Ovechkin, Tavares, Toews and Bobrovsky are all in the running will cause the most split first place votes we've seen in a while. Being in the majority of the voter's top 3 might give him enough points to overtake someone that may have more first place votes.

If Ovechkin gets the Hart, and he'll get it because writers want a good story more than they want to aknowledge real greatness, it will taint the award. The guy is a glorified trigger man, perhaps the best there is, but he is a one-trick poney. PP and ****** division, that's the key to his success this year. Close to 25 of his 31 goals scored against non-playoff teams.

Have you seen who the Pens may play in the first round? Not counting NYR, if they don't sweep it will be a complete embarrassment.

I'm hoping that the Rangers miss out still but I think that's all but over unless they lose out and Ottawa gets 1 point and Winnipeg 1.

Would rather face Ottawa than Rangers first round but the two home games will be key.

Looks like that Chicago will seal the Presidents Trophy tonight. Although Edmonton are the one team who seem to always do well against them.

It's crazy how good they've been all season. A Pens-Hawks final would be really something.

Anyone else notice that Dustin Brown just got two games for a hit that looked awful similar to Del Zotto's elbow on Neal?

Listening to Shanahan's explanation, I think the difference is that Brown was in full control of the play. I can understand his reasoning and the plays weren't completely similar.

TSN guys:

"It's Phaneuf's job to stop Stamkos tonight"

Boxscore:

Steven Stamkos (29)

He wasn't on the ice, I just found it funny.

I think it's probably news to Phaneuf that it's his job to stop anyone.

Does Phaneuf even know how to spell "stop"?

25 days after Crosby gets hurt, Martin St. Louis ties him for 1st in the Art Ross race.

I swear St. Louis and Stankos account for 85% of Tampa's scoring. Every time I check their box score one of those 2 have a point on the scoring.
