Kovalchuk attempted one slap shot during one-timer game at end of practice. Missed net badly and exited to locker room.

I hate to ***** and complain about EVERYTHING today, but can we just shut him down, put Loki back in the lineup and end this joke of a season already? Kovy should be shut down like Zach was two years ago, and Zach was actually 100% from what I remembered or at least much closer than Kovy.

I have no clue why we're such in a hurry to dress Kovalchuk. We have zero shot at the post season and he needs the rest more then anything else.

Just keep him out for the remainder of the year and play some kids for the next 6 games, focus on the draft and go from there.

I just posted the same thing

BTW, Parise played a couple of games after his knee injury if I'm not mistaken.

I've never rooted for tanking ever, not even during Maclean but honestly who gives a kazoo anymore? I would like us to win a couple more games maybe just for pride, and hopefully so drastic changes in the coaching staff aren't made like the slight chance of Pete getting canned (as much as he's shown flashes of idiocy at times) they can drop Shaw from the press box though for all I care. Part of me is also afraid it bleeds over into next season too.

Should just go with 3 defensemen nxt time.
Kostopolus did score on that penalty shot against Garon, maybe he's got a hidden talent lolz

I think he just played one game. It was the game we officially were eliminated from the playoffs too which was a loss at home to Montreal. With any luck a loss eliminates us tomorrow night, and hopefully the same thing happens to Kovy.

Kovy's not playing in Philly, according to TG

Pete should dress Barch in Philly, they do like to goon things up as we know.

I don't know where he said he wasn't playing tomorrow. Just that he's making the trip and will decide tomorrow.

Tom Gulitti ‏@TGfireandice 32m

Kovalchuk said he will make trip to Philadelphia and decide after morning skate tomorrow if he'll play tomorrow night.

EDIT - Nevermind. the tweets didn't load up until just now. Maybe because my computer was idle since I'm at work.

Completely agree. I like Pete but the way he has handled some our young players is suspect especially Larsson and Josefson. They need to be in the rest of the way. These games mean nothing.

Honestly this would be the one time I wouldn't mind a goonfest lineup. Though knowing Pete he would probably be scratching Loktionov, and Josefson, or maybe even D'Agostini for them instead of deadweight like Ponikarovsky.

Anyone wanna bet that Pete puts a bunch of goons in the lineup for the last game of the season against the season? I bet he puts Janssen in for that game since Albany's season will be over, as well as one of Zeus and Barch if not both.

I'm praying Volchenkov GTFO for the rest of the season, but I can see Pete throwing him in when his suspension is done. And that's even if everyone is healthy from here on out. I'd like to say Larsson is in the lineup for good this season, but not sure. One bad turnover (Even if it doesn't result in a goal against) and he could be out again.

I'm not rooting for them to lose. I'd like to see some dignity before the season's over, and I'd hate to see Lou throw the hammer down on Pete even though I'm not convinced he's anywhere near the hot seat at all. Though to be honest I don't give a **** anymore.

I'd also rather not draft the next TedenBUST, but knowing our luck with drafting we'll pick the 5th overall who will wind up being a total washout Tallackson/Bergfors/Corrente/Tedenby style.

Yeah, I don't want to see Marty lose 16 straight to end the season. What if something happens that forces him to retire? Would you really want to see him go out that way?

I'm still rooting for the wins, and don't ever prefer to tank.

That said, I have a different mindset than '10-'11. *Then*, I wanted every last win because despite the long odds, we had put together a serious run and had gotten ourselves within striking distance. This year, being the opposite, it's gotten to the point where the losses don't really hurt as much.

In '10-'11 we had our playoff appearance streak on the line and making a near improbable comeback made each loss at the end of the year sting more. Now, with the short season and hockey this year almost not happening at all, and with our ridiculously improbable losing streaks, I figure what is another 6 losses if it must come to that.

Playing spoiler for the Rangers would be something, I guess, but this season is what it is at this point and at least having some prospective scoring talent at our pick will be some small consolation.

FWIW, the only thing I really give a damn about is the loss of pick next year hanging over us. While some may predict a bounce back year next year, *if* we should struggle or show some semblance of turning to a youth movement, that loss is going to suck.

I wonder if there might be grounds to appeal the decision should that scenario unfold.

Besides, Marty won't retire on such a note. I think he'd like to participate in next year's outdoor game and take one more kick at the can.

This offseason is going to be sooooo interesting.

Only forwards signed through next season:

Zajac, Kovalchuk, Carter, Gionta, Bernier, and Barch

RFAs: Loktionov, D'Agostini, Henrique, Josefson, Tedenby

UFAs: Elias, Clarkson, Zubrus, Sullivan, Ponikarovski, Kostopolous.

I'm kind of anxious to see how our forward corps looks next year....Anyone want to do predictions? I'll do mine...

Zubrus-Loktionov-Kovalchuk
Elias-Henrique-TRADE/UFA/Clarkson
Josefson-Zajac-TRADE/UFA
Carter-Gionta-Bernier
Barch, D'Agostini

That's what I kind of expect. Hopefully we can flip a defender for a RW.
