Which 06 team has had the most talent

I began thinking, wow Pittsburgh and Boston have had alot of elite players in the past Pittsburgh with their forwards and Boston with their Defense. This got me wondering which teams have had the most talent in their history? To be simple I kept it between the most storied teams - the original 6.

So again question is:

Which O6 team has been blessed with having the greatest amount of talent throughout their history.

it takes a lot of talent to win approximately 23 Stanley Cups

Habs have had great players, but no one close to Gretzky, or Orr. In the non goalie part of it.

Roy, Dryden, Hainsworth, Veznia,

Theodore...

They had the "best player in the world" in Morenz. Then in Rocket Richard until Howe passed him. Then Beliveau was considered the best, or darn close in the later 50's, early 60's. Then Lafleur was the dominant forward... And probably player after Orr was.

So debatably, Montreal had the best player in the world several different times, even if none of them were in the Howe Orr 99 66 class.

Montreal easily. I mean look at their top goalies all-time: Roy, Plante, Dryden; All are in that argument for top 7 goalies of all time.

Habs without a doubt.

I thought this was a poll for best team in 2006 at first.

Are we just comparing lists of the great names for each franchise or is this an actual assessment of a those great players and their contributions to the team?

For example, Hasek for Chicago ... Arguably GOAT goalie.... But didn't really so much for us in CHI.

Either way I think the answer is still the Habs.

I'm not 100% sold on Toronto > Chicago though, even with all their cups.

It's obviously Montreal #1 (2nd place is an interesting debate) but I thought it would be interesting to compare how many HOFers each team has. I arbitrarily decided that they had to play 100 or more games as a skater or 50 or more games as a goalie with the team to be eligible.

Montreal - 32 skaters, 7 goalies, 39 total
Toronto - 40 skaters, 9 goalies, 49 total
Boston - 28 skaters, 6 goalies, 34 total
Detroit - 32 skaters, 6 goalies, 38 total
Chicago - 20 skaters, 7 goalies, 27 total
New York - 30 skaters, 5 goalies, 35 total

Leafs appear to be the kings of renting HOFers.

I was pretty surprised by that too so I counted quickly and 30/62 of the Leafs Hall of Famers played 5 seasons or less for the Leafs, 18 with 3 or less! King of rentals indeed!

Obviously the Habs, but it gets a little bit interesting when you get to the rest, I'd go Wings-Bruins-Hawks-Rangers-Leafs, but it's pretty tight. Gets real interesting if you cut it off in '67.

wow. that is extremely surprising! Frank Mahvolich would be done for three teams then? So the Habs never traded for players I guess? How does NY have nearly as many as the Habs when they sucked forever in the Original 6?

Surprising! Can you post all the names?

In hindsight I probably should've linked everything.

If you go here you can check off 'Combined Seasons' and 'Hall of Fame', pick a team, position and set parameters (e.x. games played greater than 100).
