Hindsight: JVR

Since people are still talking about the carter/richards trades and what could've happened, I feel like jumping that bandwagon aswell.

Remember when Montreal still had Price and Halak? Price had lost his job to Halak whom had a magical playoffs, before his contract was up and he was traded to Stl. I remember there being rumors about a Price/Halak trade for JVR. Was this ever confirmed to be true? What if...?

Price and/or Halak would have floundered, and we would be hoping the Flyers sign Bryzgalov this offseason because we need a franchise goaltender

We could sign Bricky McBrick, the man who closely resembles a 4x6 brick wall and he'd come here and suck.

He gives up too many rebounds, I wouldn't want to see him here anyways.

McBrick has awful lateral movement, not interested.

I've seen a couple of his games, though, and he looked quite solid.

He'd be traded to the Kingsmen anyway. We'd eventually end up with Humpty Bryzumpty.

Breaking the joke train of this thread, but I'm decently sure the rumor was Giroux for Halak, not JvR.

Which would make a lot more sense for the Canadiens, considering there was backlash about them passing over Giroux, and JvR was not nearly as proven of a commodity following 2010 as he was after 2011.

It was, and even though that's probably not a good trade straight up, we might have won the cup in 2010.

Yea, but McBrick is more of an additional piece you build around the cornerstones of a franchise.

Montreal was looked upon as a group of midgets though. Which was also one of the reason they lost against us, even though Halak played like a god against us aswell. I don't think JVR was concidered a bust before his playoffround against Boston in 2011. After all, I remember him scoring some freaky goal against Boston in 2010.

But you're right, if it indeed was Giroux they wanted, I wouldn't have done that trade either...

I did enjoy many of the brick jokes btw, keep it up!

Personally, I believe Carter should have been moved the year after we made it to the finals. He was a non-factor for most of those playoffs, making it pretty obvious that we could succeed without him. I'm sure we could have shipped him to Columbus and received the same package we got a year later (Voracek, 1st....where we could have drafted Cam Fowler). We should have signed a vet goalie, like Vokoun, with Bob waiting to take over the reigns and spending his first year in the AHL and not rushing his development

regardless, hindsight is 20/20

There was a report around December of 09 that Montreal offered Halak to the Flyers for a 2nd round pick and the Flyers turned it down.

Halak isn't even that good. He had a nice run that year, but what else has he done? He's even struggling in Hitchcock's defensive system. I don't blame Homer for passing on him

A career sv% of .917 is very good. Just because he is having a down year doesn't mean he is a poor goalie.

You always make that trade for a 2nd...

2nds are worthless as has been proven over and over again.

But when rumors popped up that it was something around JVR or Giroux...that's when I was off the Halak boat.

Montreal fans still think we should've traded JVR for Halak citing the Schenn trade as a point of emphasis that we got very little value for JVR. They don't realize that both JVR and LSchenn are more valuable than Halak to this day.

The habs also wanted a carter for price straight up before the trade deadline that year where Halak had a good playoffs and stole the starting role in the regular season.

BS thinking right here. Just because the management here screws up goaltending decisions on the reg does not mean that anything they do is bound to fail. The one homerun they did hit, they decided to trade it to Columbus for a 2nd round pick.
