I agree that he has had his issues, but I also don't think that it's a coincidence that the lines he is on have often been the best in games of late. When he was with Jagr and Kelly they looked good. Then when Jagr got sick and Dawgs was inserted, that line looked good.

It's doubtful Pevs sits because of his PK ability, but I might sit Thornton and see how Soderberg looks. If he doesn't have the extra gear, bring in a pissed off Thornton for Game 2.
Sure I'm fine with that. Sadly I'm of the mind this team is dead anyway. May as well give him a taste of playoff hockey for his future, and who knows, maybe he isn't as behind the curve as he appears to me.

As for a "pissed off" Thornton, doesn't do much for me. He simply doesn't do his job all that effectively anymore and he doesn't warrant the ice time if he's not fighting. If the team needs him as a binkie and the coach feels this way then I guess he plays, but he doesn't seem to do anything for this team at this stage.

I haven't been impressed with Soderberg, I don't think he will dress to start the playoffs. Jagr and Horton should be coming in and Daugevins even looked better than him.

I am impressed with Soderberg's mental game. He sees the ice well and reads plays fairly well, particularly for someone used to playing on a bigger sheet of ice. However, for the SEL's leading scorer his hands don't look as good as I expected. (Basing that mostly on the one timer he botched last night but a couple of other plays too.)

Due to Haggerty's report that Horton is not going to be ready to start the playoffs, I doubt we will see him and that means Soderberg plays somewhere. He isn't nearly ready for it but those are the breaks.

He needed a full season, not a handful of games to get his game ready for the playoffs.

According to Brickley, Soderberg could not get off a one-timer on that play because the pass was too far to his right so he elected to settle it and try to put it under the crossbar. Unfortunately, as seems to be the case with a lot of B's shots these days, he missed.

If Horton is not ready to play, I think Soda will definitely be in there.

He needs to learn how to be defensively responsible. It's not Claude's fault that the guy won't play a solid 2 way game. He has to balance that line out and cover Jagr's deficiencies...

I heard Brickley's explanation and while I understand it, I don't take everything he says as gospel either. Soderberg could have shown much better settling the puck on that play and adjusting......no matter where the pass came to him. There also have been a couple of other shots where he has not been able to settle the puck and gone high glass as Felger likes to say...Maybe I am making a mountain out of a mole hill though. Soderberg will definitely play. That is not so good for the Bruins but he will play.

I was impressed with the slick pass where he sent Peverley in on goal. I thought Peverley was going to score, but the goalie made the save.

the same things could be said about Seguin recently, and he is supposed to be our superstar scorer

Soderberg is skating with the scratches, so that will mean he'll probably sit out Game 1:

The lines in practice are:

Lucic Krejci Horton
Marchand Bergeron Seguin
Daugavins Kelly Jagr
Paille Campbell Thornton

Extra forwards: Peverley, Soderberg, Pandolfo

Depite the lousy year he had I much prefer Peverley over Daugavins....We will not get much production from line 3, sigh. I guess Claude has had it with Peverley think there may be more to the story than Pev's poor play. But I suppose poor play over 48 game is enough. Bye Bye Pevs.

If this is the best CALUDE can do with the team, then it is time for him to be fired.

Lucic-Krejci-Jagr
Marchy Bergy Seguin
SODA-PEVS-HORTY
PAILLE-SOUP-KELLY.........That should be our squad.

Soderberg is completely irrelevant on the ice. That's a smart scratch.

So you think that Shawn Thornton brings more competitively to this team than Carl Soderberg does?

Yeah, if he plays another game like he did against Ottawa with Jagr as a linemate, they are going to be a handful. I just haven't seen Dogman play quite like that before, so I'm hoping it wasn't just some anomaly resulting from playing his former team.
