How is Drouin better than Barkov? He scores against juniors?

Just reading that is cringe-inducing.

I don't really care about size or position if we're picking top 5. Go for BPA. If that's Drouin, so be it. The kid is magic. And then if we can land MacK by trading Eberle+...

Also, someone can correct me on this but Drouin can play center no?

IMO, at least one GM is going to want Druin so bad that he will trade a big body top 6 or a PMD for Druin. This could be MacT's bold move - a potential franchise forward traded to fill a need.

In the last 10 years, only 1 top 4 pick has been traded (Seguin) and that was a mistake. If Toronto knew it was a top 4, the trade would have never happened. The price for a top 4 pick is very high.
yeah the asking price for a top-4 this year would be very high, as the cluster of 4 at the top is pretty set (jones/mackinnon/drouin/barkvo)... finding the right trading partner isn't always easy though

I wonder what type of numbers Barkov would put up playing in the CHL.

what would a top 5 pick be worth on the trade market. Yandle and Hanzel, that would fill two needs for this team.

Drouin used to play center but was moved to wing to play with MacKinnon on Halifax. I don't know how much he has played center lately.

The point is, if we draft Drouin we would definately have to move out two of the top 6 we have already as we would have not size. Two of Eberle, Yak, Gagner, or Drouin would have to be traded.

Drafting a center definitely makes things much less complicated

Pouliot over Kesler, Richards, Perry, Eriksson, Bergeron, Weber, Backes, and others is like a boot in the nuts with a frozen boot on a cold day.

If Drouin's on the board they have to take him, the kid is absolutely incredible. He would be amazing playing with Yakupov. Gagner and Hemsky would be the guys to go. A line with Drouin and Yakupov on it would be just as dominating as the kid line is now within two years. Having two lines like that would be a huge advantage. Good veterans would be required to fill out the rest of the roster.

My feeling is that they end up with Barkov though, I think Drouin could go first.

Edit: When I say the kid line is dominating, I'm referring to times like the 5-game winning streak.

Use their pick, take MacKinnon. Trade the other 2 and something else, get Drouin

He's a lot like Taylor Hall but with better balance and hands. Hall is clearly faster and bigger. Mac will probably play at 6'1 200 though. He's a tank for his size already. His body style is a lot like Crosby's at an early age. I would love to get Mackinnon and trade Gagner for a defenseman. I've also done some reading on his defensive play, he's responsible defensively and his faceoffs are improving. I read somewhere he was at 55% this year.
I have seen him play around 5 times in Halifax. If he is at 3rd pick, I'll shoot MacT if he does not take him. Two strides and this guy is full steam. He will grow some more as well and he can hit

Yeah it never happens. Nobody wants to trade anyone. And if we drafted Drouin it would be "never trade a player on his elc" or "his value will only get higher". Our top 6 would continue to be full of soft skill players.

I haven't been a fan of MacKinnnon at all, but if what you guys are saying that he's similar to Hall but a C are true then you'd have to pick him. To have him as Yakupov's partner would be amazing.

well he was a top-10 guy in the Finnish league, which is probably the 5th best pro-league in the world (NHL/AHL or KHL/SEL/SML)... so i would guess that he would have ripped the CHL up.... rajala was a 0.24 PPG player in the SML in his draft year, and then was a 1.05 PPG player in the WHL the next season... barkov is a 0.91 PPG player in the SML in his draft year

i don't think you would get both of those players, not a chance.... you'd likely get yandle though i would guess (or a similar top-3 type defender)

And Mikko Koivu had 1 point in 21 games in his draft year and topped out at 30 in 45 a few years later, compared to Barkov at 48 in 53 games in his draft year. Not too shabby. Similar size too.

That's something thy confuses me too. IMO him and Jones are the best two in the draft. Teams would be silly to pass on him for Mac or Drouin.

I think he needs to polish his skating stride a bit more. But even at that he's right up in the top 4 cluster that everyone is talking about.
