You'd have to expect Morgan Rielly to be joining the Marlies in the next week or so.

They won't let Rielly sit at home twiddling his thumbs until next year if he can play pro hockey right now. He almost made the Leafs out of camp.

Can Rielly join the Marlies?

Does the 20 year old rule not apply to ATOs?

Rumor has it that Stephen Johns will be signing an ATO with the Icehogs if Notre Dame's season ends before Rockford's.

Slim chance of that happening, but even if Johns doesn't sign an ATO, he'll still probably sign a pro contract this summer and leave the Irish.

This is the case with any signed junior prospect.
As long as their junior season is over, they can be assigned by their parent team.
It does not burn a year of the contract either, as the only NHL games are a factor in the ELC slide rule.

Yeah junior guys can join AHL teams once their junior season is over. With Rielly's team not making the playoffs, he can join as early as next week.

The player does not need to be signed to an ELC to go to the AHL squad. After their season is over, they can sign an ATO with the AHL team and head there and it is unique and separate from the NHL contract.

Ryan Lasch, acquired in the David Steckel trade, will be joining the Marlies sometime this week.

He was playing in the SEL prior to the trade.

Not much of a prospect, I know.

Can an unsigned prospect ply for an AHL after his CHL season is over? Specifically the Islanders have not signed Pelech to an ELC, now that Eire's season is over can he play for Bridgeport on an ATO for the remainder of the AHL season?

Fair enough, and now it sounds like he is coming up for sure.
Was just throwing out the possibility.

Reality is we already have a lot of D down there, and no room to call anyone up
