Hard day. My familiar passed after nearly 18 years. She was a good cat.

Sucks.

I lost my cat this past winter. I had him since I was 13. Sucks losing pets, especially ones you've had for a long time.

We had her before she was even born -- her mother adopted my wife and her housemates when she was in college. There were five in the litter, mine being the longest lived.

Odd to think walking downstairs this morning I didn't have my daily escort, my wing-cat if you will, accompanying me on my first task of the day: getting a fresh can of cat food. Thanks all for the condolences.

She had a couple of big "if's" to just get this far -- if my wife and her housemates in college hadn't taken in the starving stray (her mom, preggers) who showed up on their doorstep in August of '95, she would never have had this sort of life. If they hadn't decided to let the mom have the kittens or if they hadn't decided to get the mom vet attention right away.

As cats go, she was a terrible jumper. That old expression that cats always land on their feet never met my cat. She could hunt -- we found that out in NC when mice got into the kitchen and she took care of the little ******** stealing her food. And the tops of strawberries -- the hull leaves -- were like methadone for her as she would act like those were catnip more than she would with real nip up until the last few years of her life when the real stuff was one of her favorite things. She would play fetch with paper balls.

Anyway, my kids reaction to this has been interesting. My son is showing prototypical male detachment. My daughter? Scientific inquiry. Both are a bit sad, but we already got the "when can we get another" from both in the last few hours.

My son is being typically male. A lot of "I don't want to talk about it". My daughter is more sad empathically due to her mother and I being sad, and asking a lot of questions as is her usual self.

Sorry to hear, Chain.

On the bright side, 18 years is a great life for a kitty. It gives me hope that I have 8 more with my old gal!

In other news, anybody on here utilize a house cleaning service in Buffalo? Thoughts? Going rates? We have zero problems keeping up with the housework right now, but both being working parents with a newborn on the way in addition to the toddler may be trying for awhile. Any input would be appreciated.

It's supposed to be gorgeous weather this weekend.

Get out there and plant your gardens or take care of your landscaping. Also, start stocking up on your summer beers.

We had a great one but she was doing it to suppliment "regular" employment. Once her hours went up there, she cut back on the cleaning and we lost her.

It made a huge difference to have someone who could deep-clean a room per session. If you find someone, let me know, since we're looking for someone to come in before the house hits the market now that most of the construction stuff is complete.
