Top 5 Favorite Habs - Excluding current roster!

Well folks i've noticed that since the Legends game alot of people on that thread have been talking about some of their favorite players. So all you've got to do is name your top 5 favorite habs players, though you can't say any of them who play on the current roster. I'll get the ball rolling and my list is in no particular order.

1. Denis Savard
2. Doug Harvey
3. Shayne Corson
4. Guy Carbonneau
5. Gilbert Dionne

'm already gonna be cheeky though and also say Larry Robinson and Chris Chelios... so maybe i should just change the number of favorite players to 10???

People may laugh at me when i say Gilbert but when i first started watching the Habs back in 92 and obviously the 93 cup run... i just loved watching Gilbert skate!!!

My top five belongs to Patrick Roy,

then you can add, depending on the years, Richer, Courtnall, Muller, Dionne, Schneider, Damphousse, Recchi, Savage, Petrov, Zholtok... but they are far far far away behind Patrick. that's the problem, I have to say "depending on the years"... that's why they can't be in my top 5. I didn't like Damphousse that much untill he was our Best player... then he was cast away soon after.

I can only remember up to 89 I think... so don't blame me if I don't mention the HOF clique

I almost added Patrick Roy but I just couldn't bring myself to do so.. he gave up on the club and left and did so in a very poor manor. Yeah, he had a bad game.. yeah, the coach was a muppet and should have pulled him but damn.. tough it out and go to the man upstairs! Tossing the puck at Ronald, the other muppet.. funny and to the point but disrespectful to the Habs and now, he won't even play with our elumini teams and bring back some joy to the fans that supported him and loved him.

I wanted to add Lafleaur and Shutt too.. but I didn't see them play enough.

thats okay buddy normally on lists like this you get the usual names, lafleur, Rocket, Beliveau etc etc, and most of the time they've never even seen them play... so your list is just dandy!!!

As a Bruin fan, I must say that I only ever liked one Hab, and that was Larry Robinson. I always thought he was (and still is) one heck of a classy guy.

I remember Tiger Williams telling a story where he (Tiger) got really incensed at a referee during a playoff game between the Leafs and Habs.

Tiger went after the ref, and was ready to do something physical, but
Larry stepped in, pulled Tiger aside, and calmed him down. Tiger credited Larry with saving his career, because he surely would have been banned form hockey had Robinson not stepped in.

I see it on the other side, It had been Roy team for the past 10 years, particularly during Demers era, but then Tremblay, Roy's ex teamate, drops down and decide that he'll break Roy's caracter... he didn't wanna cope with him, he wanted to break him.
Roy surely said prior to that game, it's him or me. and Corey had already made his mind...
hopelessly the GM was Houle.

I can't name just five, so here in no particular order are my all time favourite habs:

Guy Lafluer - The most exciting player I have ever seen in a Hab uniform.

Ken Dryden - Goalie was always my best position by far. As a kid I always wanted to be like Kenny. A true class act.

Larry Robinson - The best all round defenseman I have ever seen. Appologies to Bourque, Potvin, Chelios ect fans out there. Nobody did more things extremely well than The Big Bird, and I never saw Orr play.

Patrick Roy - The best Hab of the last 25 years and IMO the best goalie to ever play in the NHL. Proof is the fact he is the all time winningest goalie in the playoffs and regular season.

Guy Charbonneau - The best checking center I have ever seen.

Jacques Lemaire - Exceptional offensively and very underrated defensively.

Mario Tremblay - The gutsiest player I have ever seen wear a habs uniform. Tough and could score 30 goals. His main problem as coach was that he wanted his players to work as hard as he did as player. God forbid today's millionaires actually get their uniforms dirty.

Mats Naslund - Exciting little player and he would not back down. My favourite Hab of the late eighties and early nineties.

Kirk Muller - Gritty and talented.

Mark Recchi - I came as close as I have ever come to not being a Hab fan anymore when they let him go.

Alive maybe? Because the Rocket holds that title for the Habs

Very good list though, just thought I'd say that Richard is on a pedestal nobody can reach in the province of Quebec.

Although Savard I was indirectly mad at because we drafted Wickenheiser instead of him (thanks in part to Lafleur). Still, Savard was an amazing player but we got hosed on the deal to bring him here.

Tough question... If i were to go with folklore, and choose according to my favourite INCLUDING the Legends I never saw, my list would be like this:

1) Maurice 'the Rocket' Richard (never saw him play)
2) Larry 'Big Bird' Robinson (I saw him play)
3) Guy Carbonneau (I saw him as well)
4) Patrick 'Saint' Roy (Saw him)
5) Doug Harvey (Never saw him)

my list including only players I HAVE seen would be like this:
1)Larry Robinson
2)Guy Carbonneau
3)Patrick Roy
4)Mats Naslund
5)Guy Lafleur

I agree with this post only take Recchi out and insert Frank Mahovlich. He was one of my all-time favorites

I'd replace Dipietro by Dionne.
