RNH to Toronto

With all the Mac T speculation flying around, thought this one would be fun to discuss. I understand the sentiment amongst Edmonton fans is that if someone moves it will likely be Yakupov or Eberle, but I thought I would take a stab at putting a price tag on Nugent-Hopkins.

Morgan Rielly
Tyler Biggs
1st 2013

Ryan Nugent-Hopkins

This is awful for the Oilers.

Biggs and the 2013 1st are incredibly underwhelming and Reilly hasn't proved anything, and isn't the type of D-man we're looking for because we already have Schultz.

Edmonton cant afford to give up hopkins. He's also better than that package suggests and Im confident the future will show it.

Edmonton would most certainly not do this.

absolutely not! oilers cannot afford to give up there #1 center, let alone for non-proven defensemen and a low 1st, Nuge should be number 2 on the untouchable list behind Hall.

Unless Biggs' stock has improved tenfold over the last couple of months(and I don't think it has), this is really bad. A very good defensive prospect, a good forward prospect, and a middle of the pack 1st round pick... for The Nuge. Nope.

Leafs have been trying for yrs to land a legitimate 1st line center. I doubt the Oilers send their budding franchise center to Toronto

No reason for Edmonton to do this. #1 Centres are extremely difficult to acquire (just ask Toronto, Calgary, Columbus, Nashville, Winnipeg, Phoenix, etc who have all gone 5+ years without one). If Edmonton wants to make a big trade, it'll be one of the wingers.

You realize Cody Franson of all people is outscoring "The Nuge" right? Even if we traded for him, he's probably not going to contribute very much right away, let alone be our franchise center...

RNH is a legit 50+ point NHLer, and he's only 20 years old. You don't trade that away for 2 guys who have yet to show what they can do in a professional league and a mid/low 1st. Would need at least 1 top roster player going to Edmonton.

Cheechoo preformed at a 50 goal pace before too so I guess he is a proven 50 goal scorer yes?

Edmonton doesn't even have a number one center to speak of, not sure what you're referring to.

The team who gets the best player almost always wins the trade.

Offer up quality and you'll get quality, but 4 quarters don't equal a loonie.

Morgan Rielly is hardly a quarter, and RHN is no loonie.

Good thing for Toronto, that they have 25 yr ld Franson and not the sophmore RNH then isn't it?

RNH is 20 and still developing, with huge upside, which is why the OP proposed moving two recent 1st rounders and the upcoming first rounder.

Why would Edmonton, clearly expecting RNH to develop into a franchise center, trade him for several lesser pieces? Why would they intentionally open that hole in their roster?

Need a #1 center or a potential #1 center coming back to Edmonton.

Kadri + Reilly + 1st for RNH

Edit: I know it's an overpayment but that's probably what it would take

Yes. He once scored 50 goals so he is a proven 50 goal scorer. I don't see what's so hard to understand?
