I wouldn't be surprised. Good top 6 centers in UFA this year....Roy, Weiss, Ribeiro, Bozak. That's it.

3rd line centre might get more value out of that money than a backup goalie; at least.

If Hemsky got $10m over two years as a UFA and is a wing, I think Bozak who plays in all situations as a center can get $5mil/yr, even post-new CBA. He'll be lower if he signs long term, but I think he'll get 4.75-5.25 per year if it's a shorter term deal.

Would EDM give him the ompliance buyout? Or even a noncompliance buyou which would be $1.8M for 4 yrs.

Yup.

Plus, you have to figure that one of those guys (my guess would be Ribs) doesn't even reach the UFA market. Then you consider that Florida will definitely be looking to replace Weiss if gone (they have $5m to spend), Toronto would need to replace Bozak if gone (also have $5m to spend), plus teams like Anaheim, Dallas, Calgary and others who are looking for a centre and would have little problem spending $5m on one.

5mill a year for a guy who has never topped 20 goals or 50pts in a year?

As a Sens fan, I'd easily give him the 5 mil that he's looking for.

Greening - Spezza - Michalek
Turris - Bozak - Alfredsson
Conacher - Zibanejad - Silfverberg

Salary is dictated only by point production? Bozak does a lot more than just put up 50 points a year. He's a well rounded center whom plays a solid defensive game and is the go-to guy at the draw particuarly in the defensive zone.

Very consistent too. You know what you're getting with Bozak. 4.5-5 seems fair.

Doesn't really seem fair, but that is the market. He should get that rather easily, I would think.

He should look hard at the grabovski contract... he's better than grabo, he should at least get that. Maybe even more as UFA

Brian Burke's not a GM in the league anymore, no more stupid contracts for guys like Bozak in TO.

No where near hard-up enough to lay out 5M on a player like Bozak.

Big time PASSSSSSSSS.

Edit: Now watch him go out and have a hat trick tonight or set up one.

This is exactly what happened. The market at the time was set for a player of his position and production. I seem to recall it was a signing by either Van or Buffalo the set the value but I could be mistaken. The only thing I would blame Burke for is not getting it done sooner and setting the market value but who knows how the negotiations went down, maybe Grabo's agent wanted to wait for the first signing to see what the market would dictate. If true it was a gamble that they won.

I would trade Grabo and then sign Bozak for as close to 4 as possible but no higher than 5.

I was going to say the same thing but I was afraid to. Man I hope not... Would be worse than the Stajan deal.

Hemsky used to be a near-PPG player. His only issue until recently was injuries. At the time of his contract signing, Hemsky was twice the player that Bozak is.

is this reverse psychology to try and get the Leafs to waste cap space?

Bozak should be making around 4 max,

Kadri, Grabovski, McClement is fine for next year

you resign Bozak and you have over 10 Million tied up in Cs, have to resign Kadri and still don't have a #1 C

Bozak is more valuable to the Leafs than Grabo; especially if he's making less.

So Zibinejad blows, and you'd give Bozak $5 million a year so he could slide in behind 3 better slotted centers.

Good scouting breakdown, good use of cap space and way to fill no need. A trifecta of uselessness.

issue isnt bozak at $5 million. its bozak AND grabovski at $5 million each. imo nonis gives it to bozak and looks to move grabovski.

When Dregger say "command" he must be misinterpreting "demand"
When he demands $5 million Nonis will then command him to leave his office and never return.
