IMO, there are advantages and disadvantages for each location. I think the sightlines at TCF would be better than TF, but the downtown location makes TF a more television friendly environ...not to mention the bars, restaurants and parking are more convenient for TF as well.

If they end up waiting as long as it looks, may as well open it up at the Vikings new stadium...

THIS is what ticks me off. I am even a Penguins fan having family in western PA. I kind of can see Pitt because of Crosby and they have the success to back it up but the Rangers and other NY teams (that east coast general area as a rule) is only because of the NY obsessed media (east coast bias) and all of that crap.

Giants suck as well. Mets and Isles fall under the "Meh" category for me.

That's cause they're not from NY City, but upstate NY.

No surprise at all to me. The Wild want the big one... period. They didn't get the big one, they want to wait until they can get the big one. The Winter Classic itself or bust!

Meh. We'll get the WC in 2015. This is just a move to boost revenues.

Yes they did. I heard the ice was crap though.

Also remember just this year the Gophers outdoor game - it was somewhat cold, but If I remember correctly above freezing - and how terrible that ice was. Cost the Gophers the game.

Personally I think going to an outdoor game in january would be absolutely horrible. Spend a ton of money to freeze my ass off and watch a game with binoculars 1/2 mile away.

$15 a beer just so the 15mph wind chill is tolerable? No thanks
Are you serious? Are you a MN native?

TCF would absolutely be better - the oval shape alone - rink-shaped area - would be an overall cooler spectator situation. Also I don't know if some of you know but TCH is positively BEAUTIFUL and is seen by many as perhaps the best college stadium in the entire country.

Says who?? It is a nice stadium, but as someone who's gone to quite a few college stadiums it is far from the best.

Parking would be a disaster at TCF for a WC. Period. At least at TF you have the skyway to walk if the sidewalks aren't plowed yet. More than ample parking along with more dining/hotel locations for those actually coming into the area. Way more bars to dress up and do NYE right and stumble back to a hotel easily.

100% Target Field.

Although the ice wasn't great (combination of not having the NHL ice guru, the sun shining on one end for the ND-Miami game and playing 2 straight games on it), it was not above freezing at Soldier Field.

It's oval shaped, like an ice rink. I get sick of these Winter Classics with these goofy layouts (think Wrigley) where they put the arena in these odd-shaped parks. I understand why it will be at TF and never has a chance of being at TCF because of parking and other issues, but I just believe that layout would be better suited for all spectators.

Winter Classic Jan 1 bump.

What team should we play if we set up our own outdoor game?

Personally I think we should go outside of the usual suspects (Chicago, St. Lou, Dallas or Colorado) and play Winnipeg for the sake of them being our only border foe and because the Winnipeg faithfuls would represent as well.

Downside is that the Winnipeg fans would show us up and represent better if we did get an outdoor game.

Chicago or St. Louis. Most likely Chicago because NBC will need the "ratings boost" from a major market.

Are all the other outdoor games this year even going to be nationally televised?

There's quite a few of them now and I am curious if NBC or NBCS will cover them all?

I would be down for a Minnesota-Winnipeg outdoor home and home. One game at Target Field, the other game at their CFL teams stadium. Preferably in December.

I'd love to see a game against WPG but ultimately NBC would be viewing us as the "small market" participant and so we'd need to host a "big market," like how Pittsburgh was the visitor when Buffalo hosted.

Who says it has to be on NBC? A game against Winnipeg would be for Minnesota and Winnipeg's fans, not NBC like the Winter Classic is.

Like I said before, there are a half dozen other outdoor games this year and I do not believe they are all on NBC or NBCS.

I like Avder's idea of a home and home with the Jets.

Here's another cool idea.

How about a trophy awarded yearly based on those two outdoor games, with the winner being whoever has most goals over the two games total?

Two games, total goals for say, The Northwest Angle Marker.

Which team gets the first home game alternates yearly. Maybe get the schedule makers to make sure the outdoor home and home represents games one and two of the entire season series vs the Jets every year.

Now THAT would be fun, and I think that would throw gasoline on the growing rivalry.
