Edmonton-Ottawa

Ok, this is my first trade proposal so go easy on me.

To EDM- Colin Greening
2013 5th

To OTT- Ales Hemsky
2013 2nd (ANA)

Oilers need some grit, energy, and passion in ther bottom six and Greening fits the bill.

Sens get a guy who can play in the top six and CAN be the best player on the ice, he would compliment Milan Michalek very well, they also pick up a second round pick in a deep draft.

Please no homer war!

Thanks!

I'm a Sens fan, but I think Edmonton is overpaying. Straight up would be fair, but if anything, we'd have to add IMO. Nothing big, maybe like a 4th. I'd do it.

Greening + 4th for Hemsky if we can't snag a top player on FA.

The Value is there maybe change the 2nd in 2013 to a conditional 2nd in 2014 based on the number of games Hemsky plays

Has Alfredsson already publicly declared whether or not he is retiring after this season?

No but I think the assumption is that he will be back unless either we win the cup or he gets a serious injury

I think this trade works decently for both sides. I'd do it as an Oiler fan.

I have not heard much good about Hemsky lately. I would not want him in the locker room just for that. If that is just a nasty ugly no truth to it type of rumor, then perhaps.

Hemsky is a quiet team respecting type of guy. Never had locker room issues with him ever.

What are these lockerroom issues that I (an Oiler fan) have never heard of?

No locker room issues with Hemmer, he does have a Europeaney vibe to him which comes off as a bit cocky but he is a stand up guy.

The question is Melnyk would he want Edmonton to eat some salary?

I think the Oil would expect the Sens to take the whole contract

Can I pose a 3 part question to Sens fans.

1- Is Greenig what I think he is, a big, gritty 2-way winger who never takes a shift of, throws his weight around, and chips in offence here and there?

2- What's Zach Smiths game like? Similar to Greenings?

3- What would it take to pull in the 2 of them, with Hemmer going to Ottawa still.

Ottawa can afford to eat the whole contract.

1- yes, chipped in 17 goals last year, fought when needed to. Fastest player on the Sens team.

2 - similar. Greening has been used on top line, 2nd and third. Smith is best suited for third line centre. Will fight.

3 - honestly, since Ottawa is a rebuilding team also, they would require a piece that could be used going forward. MPS would be a terrific fit in Ottawa.

i'd do greening straight up. Maybe edmonton adds a mid-pick to compensate for the massive salary difference. They're both UFA after next year so no worries about mismatched amount of team-controlled years.

definitely no to trading both of them. Without greening, smith and neil are the only real toughness we have left up front. Greening is far more available than smith as smith fits his 3rd/4th line role well and signed a 4-year extension in the summer.

Probably not what you think he is. Yes he won't take a shifts off and will be a stand up guy, but he'll go unnoticed at times due to his lack of skill. Solid 3rd/4th line player but whose tools meshes well with Spezza.

Smith has good skill. Basically if you were to draw up a 3rd line center, you'd get Smith. He's not easily available.

Smith isn't easily available. Hemsky is a lot better than Greening, and probably has higher value despite his injuries/contract.

1: edmonton has no shortage of skilled players to work with greening.
2: greening scored 17 with spezza last year. He has 8 in 41 (a 16 goal pace) this year without spezza (and karlsson). He can legitimately pot 15-20 regardless of his linemates IMO.

OK let me take a shot at this:

To OTT- Hemsky + 2nd (EDM) + 2nd (2014)

To EDM- Smith + Greening

If no then please post a counter.

IMO the value is fair the only question is the toughness Ottawa is losing. Ottawa has the depth to replace them but not the toughness so I think the answer would be no.
Can't think of a counter without getting toughness from somewhere else

Hemsky + 2nd (either year)
for
Greening + 4th

we're not likely to be trading smith, and we're definitely not trading smith AND greening.

The Oilers have no toughness to give back so maybe a no go then.

If Ottawa takes all of the salary, I don't think it's horrible for Edmonton, but I'd rather see Edmonton pack Hemsky with a 2nd for a 2nd pairing stay at home d-man or a third line center to replace Horcoff.
