I will certainly make the trip .... Iowa has some great hunting, and I have friends that live there so it will make an easy trip.

Feel bad for Houston fans. Loved the old bomber sweater!

I'm interested as well. Maybe they'll show everything tomorrow?

Des Moines isn't terrible, it's the rest of Iowa that sucks. I've heard Iowa City is pretty nice too but I've never been there. Des Moines is kind of like a slightly smaller version of St. Paul actually.

I've heard Cedar Rapids is a nice city. Going to go see the Kernels this year (Twins A affiliate).

Amen to this.

But at the same time, excited to be able to road trip to Iowa to see the AHL team play.

I feel terrible for the great Houston fans and workers down there, but my first though was Iowa Wild.....really? I get keeping the brand name, but couldn't come up with anything more creative?

The Iowa Wild? Really? Seriously? Even the Iowa Aeros would have sounded better. Just keep the freaking name or find something better.

Meanwhile, time to run and get an Aeros jersey before they're gone.

This. Easy on the Iowa hate. There are alot of hidden, cool corners of Iowa...Des Moines is actually ok and Iowa City is a great town. I will agree that there is a lot of desolate cornfield towns though. I am actually going to be moving back to IC this summer (did my graduate work there) so I will have to make a trip to DM for a "Wild" game. I understand why they did this: Iowa is really a confluence of wild, blackhawks, and blues fans...and they are trying to cement their footprint in Des Moines and Iowa in general. But the wild name doesn't really work.

But I do feel terrible for the Houston fans. I was a 12 year old when the North Stars were ripped from me. It sucks. If the Coyotes move, I hope you guys get them.

I just feel really bad for the die-hard Aeros' fans in Houston tonight. It truly sucks losing a hockey team.

Kernels games are fun...I play in a men's hockey league in the same complex. Dirt cheap food and beer. From a kid who grew up watching games from the upper deck of the metrodome, its great, real baseball.

(but the greater Cedar Rapids isn't so hot, especially after the flood of a couple years ago)

I would recommend going 15 mins further down to Iowa City after the game -- great college town.

A buddy of mine is from there (big in the hockey community, a few now NHLers stayed with him growing up as his family lodged junior hockey kids).

I've wanted to go for awhile, and he definitely mentioned the flood changing it a bit, but I'm glad to know the Kernels are a fun watch. I'll probably be down there in June/July.

You'll get to watch Byron Buxton (if he's still at that level in June/July), that kid is something else.

I just want to state I really liked the Houston Aero's. Great logo I thought, but all things change I guess, and grats to Iowa. Having our farm team much closer to home is a good thing.

Good lord, I don't even want to know how mad you get about things that actually matter.

To be honest, getting something like that wrong is inexcusable. It's not like this is Twitter, or some chat conversation. You have all the time in the world (and more if you happen to own a TARDIS) to proof-read and review your message several times over before you hit that "Submit Reply" -button.

It's ok, I've been around these boards long enough to know how things can be at times here. I consider their age, then realize most are younger than my own children, and then excuse them for being ridiculous, lol.

To be honest, I'm wondering if this isn't also in some preparations to finally expand the NHL into Houston. They were runners up when the Wild got their team and the NHL wants to expand 2 more teams in the West.

You may have a good point there. But seriously hasn't the NHL learned from previous experiments with southern locals usually it don't work. I think the only reason Dallas was successful right from the get go was because they had a pre-made team just dropped in their lap, which was all ready to win. And they did... right away. I'm no expert on Dallas hockey, but some of the games lately I have watched the stadium looked to be more than half empty.
