If Another Early Exit Occurs, is it Time to Trade Burrows?

Yes, this is a serious thread.

Alex Burrows' new contract kicks in next season, and it concerns me. The guy's on pace for about 40 - 45 points this year, and that's playing alongside Daniel & Henrik and averaging nearly 3:00 of PP time/game. The reality is that that's not good enough. And I'm not sure it'll be getting any better at the age of 32 & beyond.

Trading Alex Burrows might be just the shakeup that this team would need - again, prefaced under the notion of another early exit (1st or 2nd round, let's say). And trading him before July 1st would allow the move to be made without an NTC impeding it. Ideally, he'd be packaged with Luongo, to help increase the marketability of Roberto, and hopefully yield a return that's far more enticing than the crap that Gillis was on his knees begging for at the deadline.

Not much of a point in throwing out proposals, as the market for goaltenders in the summer could be volatile, but I just thought I'd begin the discussion. Burrows' new $4.5M cap hit until 2017 is a bit of a concern given what he's produced this year, where he's at in his career, and where this team's at in its "process" to try and win a Cup.

Some very serious changes should be undertaken with another early exit, and this might be the smart one to do. Thoughts?

I'm sure it'll be easy to find another player for 4.5 mill who can play on all lines, in all situations, and can score clutch game winning playoff goals.

Burrows is the last player on the team that should be traded. I'd trade one of the Sedins.

No way. Burrows is one of those guys who sticks with a team for life. Don't know how to explain it. He just screams pure Canuck, through and through.

He's a good two way player, PK'er and goal scorer. You don't let go of these kinds of players. Plus, no matter how many points he's on pace for, he's still leading the team in goals. So yeah...

Yup, let's trade away our only source of offense. And how exactly do you trade "one of them?"

Must be some joke, Burrows is one of our best players, that plays in all situations, can play with the Sedins and is clutch in the playoffs.

Is his cap hit no longer the amazing bargain it was? Yes.

Is he no longer a critical player for us? Hell no. Point production aside, have a look at this: http://canucksarmy.com/2013/4/11/ale...ly-this-season

Maybe then it's time to realize the problem is not with the talent and look elsewhere like coaching.

Short answer? No.

Long answer? Nooooooooooooooooooooooooo.

That's about the level of consideration I would give to trading Burrows. A bit strange as well; going from questioning whether or not our team is able to play emotionally, and then advocating dealing the player who has perhaps best risen to the occasion when stakes are high over the years.

I agree we will need to make big changes, but moving Burrows isn't one of them.

I would sooner look to move Edler, and shop the Sedins if they would waive their NMC's to be dealt together.

Burrows and Bieksa are our most emotional players. Weren't you complaining we play with no emotion?

I think the twins have zero trade value. Aqua man would even do them the courtesy to trade them for free to any team they want in the ridiculous case of them ever wanting out of vancouver.

Ryan Kesler's trade value is virtually zero as well, unless he stomped his feet whining he wanted out. If Shero took acid and called gillis up and offered us Crosby for him then and only then would Gillis go crawling on his knees to Kes.

After that, Alex Burrows is the next least likely tradeable canuck. His value to the franchise and to our fansbase is literally 5 times what his actual trade value is. If Gillis traded Burrows , there is a real possibility we could find him hanging from a tree within 72 hrs.

should the canucks lose in the first round, the first person i'd be looking to leave or get fired is AV.

How many chances does this guy need for the Canucks to actually do something good in the playoffs, besides that one anomaly?

No. He had a slow start to the season but he has 8 goals in his last 18 and leads the team in goals right now. Like a lot of 30ish players in the NHL, the extra time off really hurt him.

If we have another 1st round exit, we will be traded a hell of a lot more then just burrows.

New coach, maybe new GM, at least 1 big trade, most likely 2 if you count luongo

Interesting motivational technique. Positively Keenan-like actually.

We threaten to trade Burrows, regardless of performance or cap hit, as punishment to the team if they fail to meet expectations.

It would really send a message if Burrows happens to be our best player this post season and we still trade him. No player would ever have an off game again because of the continuous state of fear and bewilderment they would be in.

Hey, we could also threaten their families! You know, with knives and stuff!
