Phil Kessel vs. Jeff Carter

Who do you consider to be the better player, all things considered?

Kessel. Equal goal-scoring abilities but much better playmaking abilities and speed. Tends to be streaky but a bit more consistent than Carter.

I hated Phil Kessel last year and other years, but this year he has been playing a much better!! He actually isn't as afraid of others no more and he can cycle the puck a bit! With that, id take him cause hes got the speed, shot, and ability to pass the puck so dam good! hes been playing a good allaround game this season!

Kessel AINEC. More dynamic.

Seriously, Carter has had tons of luck with his goals this year. I've got a feeling that every time i watch highlights from LA game and Carter scores its a deflection off of the defender

EDIT: had to watch all of his goals and only found a handful of those, anyways its still Kessel for me

I want both on my team, but I like Kessel's ability to create offense more.

Welcome to one of the most lopsided polls on HFB.

Carter is effective as all hell when he's not scoring (not saying Kessel isn't); I feel that that part of his game is being underrated. He flies all over the ice and his backchecking has broken up quite a few odd-man breaks this year. He's the superior all-around player and DEFINITELY a better fit for this LA team. He's in the best shape of his career and it shows. INSANELY fast and well-conditioned.

...but all the "ainec" is silly. Get a grip. It's CERTAINLY close.

Kessel, easily. Outside of one good season, Carter is a 60 point player for his career while Kessel has played with worse linemates and put up nearly equal #'s. The guy has 5 freakin assists...so when he's not scoring, he's not putting up any points at all.

Also, he's shooting at 20.5% right now. That's not going to last.

Here's the thing though... Carter very cleraly isn't faster than Kessel. Despite what either fanbase may say, neither is great defensively regardless of any strides made recently. Kessel has the more consistent offensive output.

...the outcome is Kessel>Carter basically every time.

It's much closer than the poll suggests.

Statistically over their careers they are close, but Carter is a more complete player.

Carter is a crappy playmaker, but let's not pretend 5 assists is his normal output. How has Kessel played with worse linemates? Carter has been playing with Richards, sure, but part of the '5 assists' was Richards' slow start and a revolving door at LW. Those two things don't seem to add up.

I don't know that either is faster than another. We've seen Carter take two strides and blow past people all year. He's a more dynamic skater than he's getting credit for her. I will argue that Kessel is the superior puck carrier at speed, though, because unless it's a breakaway or clear lane, Carter rarely lugs the puck at full speed.

oh, Carter is a true 40 goal scorer as well, something Phil has not done even though some Leaf fans claim that he is a "40 goal scorer"

Voted Carter, and that's because I know Carter is horribly underrated and has that prima donna label. I see Carter as the better all around player, plus his ability to play centre or wing. Close though!
