5 Games Left... Hiller or Fasth

After tonight's game vs CBJ, the Ducks will have 5 games left an odd number meaning Fasth or Hiller will play at least one more than each other. Who do you think it will be? What will the split be? Will this mean a sneak peek at who the goalie in the playoffs will be? I find this rotation so near the season similar to the 2005-2006 playoffs with Bryzgalov and Giguere both playing in the playoffs.

I believe it will be Fasth playing 3 games and Hiller playing 2 games the rest of the season. I predict Fasth will be the starter going into the playoffs, with Hiller stealing some starts. Just like in 2006 I think the Ducks will reach the Western Conference Final with both Hiller and Fasth playing an even amount of games in the third round.

Hiller, health permitting. He's just flat out been the better goaltender lately, and he's the guy I'd want to be on his game heading into the playoffs.

Furthermore, Giguere played 60 games that season. There was a clear starter and a clear back-up goaltender. The reason Bryzgalov got as many games as he did in the playoffs was because Giguere was suffering from a lower body injury, and Bryzgalov came in and played well.

Having Fasth means that if Hiller struggles Boudreau can to Fasth with no real issues, but Hiller has the playoff resume and he's the guy who is more likely to step up to win a game when we need it. If both goaltenders are healthy, Hiller is an easy choice for me.

Honestly, they're equally good, and their stats are quite close even if Fasth's are a little bit better. But Hiller is officially the 1st keeper and Fasth is a backup. That's the way it is and should be come playoffs. Hiller also has playoff experience. I think they're a good tandem and complementing each other well. If one struggles Bruce can put in the other with great confidence.

We can agree on that one...ugh

The only way Bobby can pull me off the "trade Bobby" wagon is if he goes beastmode in the playoffs. We all know Getzlaf, Perry, Selanne, Koivu have pretty large sample sizes of being amazing in the playoffs. I have yet to see that from Bobby. If he could just not float around the perimeter for the next month of the stretch run...I would stop crucifying him on here

Alright, I admit, amazing was not the right word for his playoff performance over his career. But I think my point still stands with regards to Bobby

Hiller gets the nod for the playoffs. But the last 5 games don't play into that unless somebody gets hurt.

What do you make of Fasth getting the nod in most of the games lately? Is Hiller injured? Or is Fasth the frontrunner to start in the playoffs?

It`s almost like we have yet to see Bobby in the playoffs

He have played only 3 series. He haven`t been worse than your mentioned Selanne in those series, i think.

He had 2 highlight reel plays in his last PO appearance. The goal was amazing and is still used in different videos as a highlight, and his famous stomp was pretty remarkable too

Ah yes the stomp... classic dirty ducks, but weber using the glass as a wwe turnbuckle with zetterbergs head is cool.

Hiller most likely unless the matchup favors Fasth's style. I have more faith in Hiller though.

Fasth has had higher highs and lower lows this season than Hiller I would say. Hiller seems to be more consistent, hopefully he can eliminate those soft goals come playoff time.

Hiller has been the better goalie the past month or so, has played well in the playoffs before and should be our go to guy.

Also teams already have a book on Hiller - they already know his strengths/weaknesses and he's been able to overcome that in two separate playoff series to date. I'm worried that over 7 games a team will be able to take advantage of Fasth's fivehole and ability to move laterally across the crease.

Hiller missed time with the flu and Fasth got a little bit of momentum going while he was gone. Then when Hiller got to start again he had to face Colorado and nobody showed up in front of him. Not ideal circumstances for Hiller that's for sure.

It's not as clear cut as I once thought, but I'd say Hiller. In saying that, his leash will be very short.
