But as Dave points out, there is also the salary component that makes things more complicated. McBain is going somewhere this offseason; could it be a part of this deal? I don't see Ruutu waiving a NTC to go to Winnipeg even if JR wanted to deal him now.
It's so funny how "rumors" are often complete BS. "Discussions" with Ottawa didn't take place, they called and asked for Silfverberg and we said no, have a great day.

Exactly - if Ottawa gave up Silfverberg for Burmi, at least on a one-for-one basis...yikes.

Not surprised. Burmi's not worth ANY of those players mentioned, Stafford MAYBE being the closest since Buffalo's in a rebuild. Burmi's not a Nino level disappointment, but he's also nowhere near being the #1b/2 type center that a lot of people projected him to be.

I'm surprised Burmistrov has fallen so flat. Watching him as a rookie he seemed like he would really be a player someday.

IIRC I had heard a lot of that had to do with the coaching in Winnipeg. They changed coaches in the move from Atlanta and, at least from what I recall hearing from others, he just flat out seems to have tuned out Noel entirely.

My point has more to do with what Winnipeg is demanding. The Canes aren't going to try to meet that price level for Burmistrov, just like Ottawa wasn't interested. If the price drops from there, I agree they should at least look.

I was more sidebar-ing. Wasn't trying to say you were the voice behind the rumors.

That makes sense.

IMO, Winnipeg fans are going to be very disappointed with that roster in the long-term. Andrew Ladd is about the only guy on the team that I'd consider a man's-man kind of hockey player.

Evander Kane? He's like the definition of man's-man.

The Winnipeg press seems hellbent on running him out of the city because he's a bad apple or whatever. Their fans aren't really worse than Toronto or Montreal, but that press is just toxic.

Also, Riley Nash scored one less point than Burmistrov while playing in 12 less games. I demand that we trade Nash for Okposo post haste!

I've gotten that vibe a lot as well. I wonder what the hypothetical asking price would be.

Hell, really after the initial first season where reality set in they've been one of the more tolerable fanbases in the east. Very fun vibe there from everything I've gathered lately. But as you said, dat media

Asking price on Kane would probably end up centering around Skinner or Faulk, neither piece is one I would want to move.

What about something centered around Ruutu? They seem to like ex Blackhawks

Media nonsense aside, he has a long way to go before he "figures it out". He's still in that youthful, celebrity-minded phase where it's all about I Just Gotta Be Me. Hell of a hockey player, but not a guy who is going to lead a locker room.

Given his salary, his NMC, how much he missed this season and the fact that he's having hip surgery again this offseason, I doubt Ruutu has any trade value even if Carolina wanted to part ways with him.

Wonder if this is the end of Sather too? Although I guess that probably would have been announced at the same time.

If y'all hate him as a coach, you better hope he gets another coaching job quick because he's probably insufferable as an analyst.

I guess they've been living under a rock. The media seemed to think this was a foregone conclusion.

Sather dying/retiring will be the end of Sather in New York.
