Bruins Reach Out to Alfredsson

Quote:
Pierre LeBrun ‏@Real_ESPNLeBrun 19m
Can confirm via a source that Boston Bruins GM Peter Chiarelli has already reached out to Daniel Alfredsson's camp today.
Makes a lot of sense for both sides if by miracle he doesn't end up re-signing with the Senators.

Alfredsson is in Sweden. His agent, JP Barry, is doing all the negotiating. Here's what will happen:

1) Bruins make offer to Daniel Alfredsson
2) If it is a number Alfredsson likes, he will give Murray an option to match it
3) Murray will either match it and retain Alfie or won't and have to deal with thousands of angry Ottawa fans who are pissed beyond belief and Alfie will sign with Boston.

There is no situation where Alfredsson signs with another team without giving Ottawa a chance to match the deal.

What plausible reason would there be for that?

Eugene Melnyk being a little ***** and giving the Senators an internal budget where they can't even afford to re-sign Alfie.

Lebrun didn't say Alfie will sign elsewhere, he said that the Bruins have reached out to Alfie. Which is likely true.

Alfie is going to do what Brodeur did.

He went to the open market...got teams like the Leafs/Flyers? interested...went back to Lou and told him to give him a multiple year extension or he's leaving.

Yup.

Except it's not Alfie, it's his agent. Alfie told his agent he's playing another year and to negotiate a deal with Ottawa.

Barry's giving him daily updates. Barry will come to him saying Boston offered ______ and Alfie will say OK now let Ottawa have a chance to match that.

Also, Sens fans WANT to give Alfie a multi-year extension. That would be best for us because it would mean that in all likelihood he'd be back for more than one year.

But what if Alfie wants a real shot at the Cup and feels the Bruins are far ahead of Ottawa in that regard?

Aside from the fact that he will sign in Ottawa the Bruins don't have the Cap space for Krusty. The Bruins are not adding any top 6 forwards this offseason.

Straight from Alfie's mouth we know that that is not the case.

He's made it very clear that he wants to come back to Ottawa. It's up to the Senators to give him a contract that he wants.

I'll say it again, there is no chance in hell based on things coming directly from Alfredsson's mouth where he will sign without giving the Senators the opportunity to match the contract.

I'll bet my sister on it.

No chance he signs anywhere other than Ottawa. No chance.

Go away Bruins and LeBrun, thanks.

If free agency doesn't open until noon Friday - how does this not constitute tampering to be 'reaching out' to a free-agent-to-be today?

Or have players been in a sort of 'limbo' since July 1, and the July 5 free agency opening is just a paperwork deadline and teams have already been allowed to talk to players for several days now?

If Melnyk won't spend to the cap, sign & trade Alfie to a contender.

Nothing wrong with Boston reaching out. He's a free agent in a few days and they are within their right to approach him. I just hope he signs with Ottawa though as I'd be weird seeing him in anything else.

Easy Sens fans I don't even think Bruins fans think he is even remotely going to end up a Bruin.

Oh good thanks for the insight - now I can stop watching free agency thanks to your spoiler alert.... Haha, I don't get why anyone would want Alfred anyway, declines coming.

It's not tampering as of 12:01 this morning free agents are allowed to talk to other teams that there interested in playing for they can agree to a contract but cant sign until July 5th at Noon.

Yeah, yeah. People say it all the time, he's gonna decline soon! He's gonna decline now! He should retire! And every single time he proves them wrong.
