According to imdb.com, Vincent Lecavalier can be seen in the movie. Playing hockey of course.

I saw an episode of Cosby (the one with Doug E. Doug) sometime last week... Cosby tells his wife he met someone at the bar who works with the Penguins. At the zoo? asks his wife. No, the hockey players, replies Cosby. So how do they get the skates on over their flippers? remarks the wife. Audience vomits with laughter.

I continued watching, and there was no further reference to the Pens, or hockey, for that matter.

When I was just a young lad, you never saw NHL references on American TV. That was back in the early 80s. Very rarely, it would happen and it was the most amazing thing to see because it was so rare.

By the late 80s, hockey had become much more popular in the US and hockey references became quite common.

In that Adam Sandler movie, Big Daddy, Sandler is watching a Rangers-Lightning game on TV. I remember seeing Bill Ranford make a great save for the Lightning.

That song isn't representative of Goldfinger. It's one of those easter egg songs that starts 5 minutes after the real CD ends.

Now that'd be obscure.
In Open Net, his participatory journalism take on the world of hockey, George Plimpton noted that many of the Boston Bruins he was hanging out with could be seen reading some fairly serious books (e.g. Toland's biography of Hitler) in their downtime, and that the general level of conversation was pretty high.

Well, there's Spawn of course, which utilized many NHL names in jokey references. Tony Twist was unamused to have his name dubbed on the mobster Antonio Twistelli and successfully sued Todd McFarlane for many millions.

The Franco-American actor Michael Vartan is a huge hockey fan and tries to work the sport into his films -- e.g. as a teacher in "Never Been Kissed," he delivers a fairly long monologue while casually bouncing a ball on the end of his hockey stick.

The movie is Forgotten. Ironic that you forgot that. Starring Julianne Moore and Goose from Top Gun. Goose isn't the ex-Ranger, that's some other guy.

Also, don't ask me how I know, but in 13 Going On 30 (Jennifer Garner), her boyfriend plays for the NY Rangers.

On the back of the insert for The Bloodhound Gang's CD "One Fierce Beer Coaster", there's a guy in a Nordiques jersey

(this is the band that did the "let's do it like they do on the discovery channel" song)

In the documentary Hellhouse about a Pentacostal haunted house, there's a shot of the security room and on one of the monitors is a hockey game (I'm assuming Stars since it's Dallas).

In Aspen Extreme one of the character's rationale for moving to Aspen from Michigan is "The Red Wings are never going to win the Cup." If only he were right.

The absolute worst hockey reference was in the Schwarzenegger move Face Off. (I think that's what it was called)

Schwarzenegger puts on full goalie gear in less than 5 minutes and actually fools the Penguins into believing that he is their goalie. Not bloody likely.

Very, very stupid movie.

Ahem... Jean-Claude Van Damme and the movie was "Sudden Death."

Don't forget the awesome mortal combat between him and the Penguins mascot.

In the latest issue of the Onion, it's a conceptual issue from the year 2056. One of the blurbs is:
"Long-Lost Stanley Cup Unearthed in Mississippi Corn Field"

On one of the vintage Saturday Night Live reruns from the 70's Elliot Gould asks if anyone knows the score of the Islanders' game during his monolouge.

in Grosse Point Black John Cussack asks Dan Ackroyd if he's in town to see a Red Wings game. In the Minimart the clerk is wearing a Wings cap.

On a third season Upright Citizens' Brigade a guy has a dead college hockey player as a gaurdian angel who urges him to go for it and give 110%. The player died from autoerotic asphixation which he states is a common cause of death for college hockey players.

In the third Naked Gun, one of the people in the prison visiting room is a hockey player.

In Christmas Vacation Cousin Eddie (Randy Quaid) laments all the money he gave to an evangelist who was sleeping with a hockey player and Chevy Chase has a customized Blackhawks jersey.

Martin: Yes honey, and the Canadiens won. You owe me 10 dollars.

First question that came to mind was what team they were watching play the Habs. Must have been an ESPN broadcast, or maybe they picked up a Vancouver feed and are fans due to proximity.

I was also impressed that they made an attempt to pronounce the team's name properly, with the -ens instead of -ans.

There was also an episode of Everybody Loves Raymond based around Roy being injured and not playing for the Avs.

And since the show was set in Seattle, that is obscure.

Don't know if this is an obscure hockey reference, but a friend and I had his 2 boys out on a little par3 golf course yesterday, and while his 9 year old was spending 5 minutes reading his putt, I started singing the chorus of Warren Zevon's hockey song 'Hit Somebody' When my buddy heard 'What's a Canadian farmboy to do ?', he chimed in with Hit Somebody. Before long we were walking to the next hole singing, 'There's a Russian on the red line, a Czech on the right, a Finn goon on the blue, lookin' for a fight.' I think we butchered the lyrics but what the hell. If you don't know the song, you should check it out.
