A 48 game season is a sprint and so some of these teams are simply currently involved in the playoffs due to a shortened season and being the "fastest" teams to pass > 50 points, and having the season cut short preventing others now from passing them.

We all know its harder to sustain success over a longer period than it is to gain success over a shorter one. (larger the sample\data set ie more games played the more accurate the true results become).

Now this is not to take anything away from our Leafs, who earned their spot on merit of the rules as set out by this lockout shortened season.
You know it is possible for a team to actually get worse right? History doesn't necessarily determine the future. Just because Team A has been good for the past 4, 6 or even 10 years doesn't mean they will be this year and next. Same for Team B who has been bad for the past 4, 6 or 10 years but is good this year.

Teams develop, get better, or regress and lose players.

Philly does not have a weak defense. Unless you mean the 6 guys playing this year.
Lauridsen, Gustafsson, Foster, Gervais and Huskins are weak indeed.

But as per cap hit their defense is:
Pronger-Coburn
Timonen- Schenn
Grossmann- Meszaros

Their first call-up (Bourdon with 45 games last year) also concussed.

Who are the 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th player on your depth chart?

Every team loses players but losing so many at one position is pretty unlucky.

Goalie thing seems to be upgraded with Mason. .931 and 2.09 in 4 games +.

Although it is an * season, no team in 9th or worst after 48 games last year made it after 82.

The NHL places a " * " beside the results of a shortened season to designate it as being not as accurate as a full one.
Huh, wonder what the % is of teams that make the playoffs that are in a position to after 48 games. I'm guessing a lot higher than you want it to be.

Better yet, wonder what the % is that top 5 teams make the playoffs after 45 games. I'm guessing 95% or better.

Somebody want to break it to this guy that Pronger won't play another game?

Then it's a weak defense. Call it what you want.

Just on the regular season stats...you still have to win 16 games to win the Cup.

I think it's ludicrous that some "fans" are debating the point and I couldn't care less what fan bases on the outside think about it.

The Leafs were able to play well from the get-go, have weathered some down times and are in the top 8. That's it.

What forward and D lineup would you guys like to see in the playoffs?

I'd wanna go with this:

JVR - Bozak - Kessel
Lupul - Kadri - Frattin
Kulemin - McClemment - Komarov
Mac - Grabovski - McLaren/Colborne
McLaren/Colborne/Orr

Phaneuf - Gunnarson
Liles - ROB
Franson - Fraser
Kostka

Reimer
Scrivens

Send down Gardiner to complete the 23 man roster.

No need, roster expands after the deadline.

This.

I don't care how they got there. They got there and that's all that matters. The real test starts next week.
