Richmond's whereabouts this season?

What do you folks think what will happen with Danny Richmond this season?

Has he really been playing that well to warrant playing in Lowell this season? Or do you believe he will eventually be sent to London (OHL)?

I say he should return to junior and get a chance to do something in junior and contribute towards a winning team and gain alittle more experience. Especially in some sort of playoff run.

Has he been sent to juniors? I think he may go to Lowell because Rutherford was talking about using a loophole to get him in the AHL. He has apparantly impressed with his skating ability and decision making, we'll see in the next day or two.

Richmond was drafted a Knight' before he was drafted a Hurricane.

Richmond seeing lots of ice time and being a big componet in a playoff run would do him some good and give him that added experience.

Best case?

London

Rushing the kid for no good reason like I think they're going to do?

Lowell

This kid has a tremendous skill level for a defenseman and is very, very mobile ... aggressive offensive instincts too ... but he's raw and desperately needs to learn the finer points of defensive hockey. The best place for that to happen is in London, where he will get a responsible role on the ice and solid instruction from a solid coaching staff. The Canes have a history of messing up offensive defenseman prospects in their VERY cheaply run minor league system. This kid is too good to take that chance with IMO.

I was unaware of any loophole. I just knew it was nearly certain he wouldn't be making the NHL team, so I said juniors.

Way up here in Pennsylvania, it's tough to come buy information on the Hurricanes.

It's not really a loophole and the Canes have already received confirmation of their position from the NHL office. Richmond was a US born college player when he was drafted by Carolina and has not played a game in the OHL yet ... despite the fact that he has signalled his intentions to do so. The Canes and the NHL contend that this means that he's eligible to be signed and assigned to Lowell, same as if he was a US college player.

As I said, I think this is a huge mistake ... but there ya go.

Yeah ... Rutherford is meeting with his agents this week and it's looking pretty likely that they'll sign him and assign him to Lowell. As I've said, I think this is a huge mistake ... but nobody that matters is asking me :0)

Right ... one year of college gives me the willies, since that was Tanabe's experience level when he was signed ... and we all know how well THAT went.

All the NHL GMs are in Toronto for a league meeting today, so I wouldn't expect we'll hear anything on these negotiations until Thursday or so.
