Can't wait to see Zaborsky play, do you guys think he will get a lot of ice-time and PP time? I checked his stats this season from KHL and he has put up some nice numbers. He is very skilled and extraordinary goal-scorer. He has shown that in FEL, KHL and perhaps after this tournament in international games aswell.

Raanta can keep the numbers decent. Finland 1 Slovakia 2 or 3.

Is it confirmed, that Raanta is the starter for today? I'm really excited to see how he does on the international level. I'm sure there are many NHL-scouts to watch him.

The game will be very tight. The finnish top-6 forwards look alot better with Korpedo instead of Haataja...
I predict another close win for the Finns.

4-2: goals from Korpedo, Kontiola, Pesonen, Savinainen btw. Satan, Kopecky.

Yesterday +15min/TOI and I'm pretty sure he'll play PP.

That's unbelievable how many times he takes a shot per game. Against France 8 shots(#1 in Slo). I remember him in Finnish SM-Liiga when he had most shots in the league, and the second one had like 100 shots less. Like Gretzky said "you miss 100 percent of the shots you never take"

If Raanta gets start and performs his usual stuff, we have a chance. But I expect Slovakia will walk away from this game with more points.

One thing I constantly wonder is that why do people think that a nameless team instantly means a bad team? I think yesterday showed us that despite the lineup containing some unknown elements, not all of them are bad players - quite the contrary. Quality guys who look quite at home at WHC level.

And that can be applied to both Finland and Slovakia. So yeah, could really go either way.

Korpikoski's number is #28, btw.

And how exactly do you figure this out? What I saw yesterday was Finland really struggling against a weak German side and even almost losing to them. How do you think they will fare against top-7 nations unless they improve hugely? Kontiola was the only player that looked really good to my eyes. Now Slovakia is a lot better than Germany and if Finland plays like they did yesterday then there is no way they'll win the game.

A round of applause to you, sir. Such a splendid way to make long-lasting conclusions based on one game.

Finland had exactly three players who looked weak and out of place: Viitaluoma, Haataja and Laakso. The rest looked most part like players worthy of carrying the jersey of an elite nation. Which means they were either already solid or guys who will improve once they get over the early shakes.

Now, it can be easily concluded that Finland looked weak as a whole when the three mentioned players all had quite visible roles: 2nd line C, 2nd line RW and 2nd unit D-man. However, their impact on the team can be reduced or downright eliminated. Haataja will be out of the lineup completely with the addition of Korpikoski. Also, Jalonen proved yesterday that he's not afraid of benching Viitaluoma and replacing him Koskiranta if the former plays weakly.

Laakso... I don't know if much can be done with him. But given how he's simply a single cog in a much larger unit, he won't make the effort of the whole squad look crappy.

Hockey 101, kiddo. Back to your textbooks.

Lineup.

Raanta (Ortio)

Lepistö - Hietanen
Mäntylä - Laakso
Väänänen - Jalasvaara
Kukkonen - Melart

Pesonen - Kontiola - Aaltonen
Salminen - Viitaluoma - Korpikoski
Savinainen - Koskiranta - Pihlström
Hagman - Hytönen - Haataja

Anttila benched. Haataja still in, and in a role not at all natural to him.

Goddammit, Jalonen. You. Just. Don't. Learn.

Anttila at least brings some physicality to the team....Haataja doesn't bring nothing.

Even before the tournament it was obvious enough that Haataja wouldn't be able to function properly on this level and that if he's not a viable top 6 guy, he shouldn't be on the team at all. Unfortunately Jalonen disagreed.

it depends alot who plays. finland vs france cheapest ticket was 40€ upper tribune, 80€ for lower... vs austria & latvia you can ticket under 100€. rest of the finland's matches cost more than 100€
but then again around 20-22€ on upper tribune, 40€+ on lower for matches like germany vs slovakia & usa vs slovakia...so it varies alot.

Jukka Jalonen is ******. I thought it couldn't be any easier to do the right thing and bench Haataja... but no.. Jalonen is horrible coach. I wonder how did Finland actually won in 2011 even thought we had Jalonen.

i think they are just giving Haataja one last change and giving the big guy Anttila a rest because of the back-to-back games.
