If Matthias is going to be a successful NHL player, he has to play center. His game is much more suited to play center, and that was clear this season. I would not want to plant him on a wing next season, mainly because of the steps he took this season. The way this team is filled at the moment, he can be placed on the 4th line and still get a good amount of minutes a night. We have a top line pairing of Mac and Huby, but its not a top line right away, so all lines should see similar ice time next season.

i personally believe we might have a winger>C transformation rather than him staying wing
No sane person plays MacKinnon at wing. He plays better when he's C, and he's good at it. He will be a C in the NHL in October.

yeah, but there's a lot of responsibilities coming from it. a lot of junior players move to C. i just said what i heard. i'm sure he'll be a center but im not sure if its worth rushing him into the role even if i guess it works since his defensive game is so developed

He should be our 2nd line center this yr with Huber n Mueller and then next season they swap with Flash weiss versteeg for the top line.

I don't think we'll have a top line next year.

Dineen will mix and match the top 3 lines.

Everyone happy? Im stoked! Cant wait to see mackinnon in a panther uniform. I actually dont trust our scouting our luck I had a feeling given the first pick our stupid idiots would take more defense.

This team is going to be so outrageously stacked i cant wait.

Is it completely out of the question that we take Drouin?

Honestly, if we pick a winger with a potential franchise D-man or a potential franchise center sitting right there, I will be enraged.

Regardless of how good Drouin is, it'd be dumb not to take a franchise, NHL ready, number 1 center.

We finally got some luck!!!!! We lose the lottery and will likely get MacKinnon. As from what I read it looked like Tallon really wanted to draft 1st overall and take Jones! Good job NHL! Now we get Maaaaaaaac!!!!

How is it that you don't trust our stupid idiot scouting, but we're going to be stacked?

A bunch of post lottery mock drafts have us getting Drouin and Tampa getting Mac mostly because Huby is already our possible franchise center.

Congratulations on the pick! I knew most of you wanted Mack anyways. Hope it works out for you folks, I was under the impression. It's what everyone wanted!

Ps: panthers are my second team

Don't worry about positions, take BPA and worry later, and it's MacKinnon after Jones. Nate's a natural C so just keep Hubey at wing if you're worried about that duo long-term.

And with that in mind, I am very glad to see (it's basically a lock you'll select a Moose) MacKinnon go to the Panthers as he's the player to build the team around. You're going to, and probably already, know a lot about MacKinnon but he and Hubey will be quite the pair to watch. Nate's drive to win, speed, shot and pursuit of the puck along with Jonny's slick playmaking and all-around offensive game will make for fun times in South beach IMO.

Don't know a lot (in-depth) about your prospect situation but this seems like the best fit. Franchise C working on becoming a complete two-way player... Any Florida fans in Canada can watch him play on sportsnet this Friday too

Congrats, I think you'll really enjoy watching him fly up the (BankAtlantic Center?)...

its a no brainer this pick. Scott Luce, has been with the panthers for 10 years. Many of his early pick have been busts.

Thank you for pointing out flaws in logic. Our scouting has failed this organization from 2000-2006 leading to a decade of mediocrity. Our recent lottery picks hopefully will pan out.

There's no way that the Avs won't pick Jones. This is perfect.

I got that this pick would be easy, but in order for the Panthers to be stacked it would be more than just one player. This scouting staff has made some mistakes, but this team is loaded with young talent because they have drafted well over the past few years.

I am still praying Tallon somehow conceives a plan to get the 3rd pick as well and draft Mackinnon and Drouin... this year's second round pick coupled with next year's first rounder and maybe a current forward prospect not named Huberdeau or Bjugstad. Tampa also has a very decent prospect base across the board (offense, defense, goaltending) but they apparently lack forward size and offensive defensemen. Also wonder if they are in a win-now mentality since both St. Louis and Lecavalier are getting up there in age (although Vinnie is rumored to be heading out)

To me personally, this would make all the pain and suffering of this horrible season very bearable.
