Can you imagine being the public defender assigned to protect that puke? At least with the medical personnel you're keeping him alive and knowing your work could lead to information in the long run.

^^^ What IceDaddy said.

VIA Rail is a passenger train service like Amtrak. So, basically, the plot was to attack a passenger train carrying hundreds (?) of innocent passengers.

Those Québécois separatists are a vocal bunch, I'm sure. pretty fascinating from a socio-political viewpoint.

Meanwhile, to today's presser in Canadia, job well done by RMCP. Nothing should really surprise us, sadly. I don't think it's unreasonable to suggest that Law Enforcement in our country and collaborating agencies from friendly countries deals with countless threats against the US, and more we'll ever know about it. Some get further in their planned progression than others certainly....but there something to be said for sleeping under the blanket of freedom that those who protect us provide.

Or however Nicholson referred to it in "A Few Good Men."

Real upstanding US citizens right there.

I would say it IS non-existent. I've never had any form of search while riding.

Yes it is. My wife literally said "this is what is annoying about living in Canada" when the french guy started talking. A minute later I read your post.

Those good folks know what they're getting into, but yeah, crazy crisis of conscience. They're good people...a true belief in the law and understanding that no matter how despicable the act, it requires and demands legal representation. I admire those folks. Tough job.

I'd wouldn't be shocked though if he loses that PD at some point. I can see a "celebrity" defense attorney taking up this cause. Publicity, any kind of publicity, is a fantastic motivator.

The fact that ******** #1's wife appeared to be a normal All-American girl prior to getting involved with him makes me uncomfortable.

It's impossible to secure a rail line. The tens of thousands of miles of line are impossible to watch. Someone could just plant a bomb at night, leave and just blow it as the train passes over top of it. It's the least secure mod of transportation in the world

Hearing they weren't ID'd until they got #1's print from his corpse at the hospital, when their names popped up through a immigration data base.

She didn't recognize him? His friends? I hope the 3 that were arrested are deported. See ya, wouldn't wanna be ya. Good luck w/ the Russian Spetznaz.

Federal Public Defenders are killing each other to be able to defend this guy... It's like winning the lottery, win or lose. And, then, the tugging at the heartstrings of the carefully selected jury (snicker) will begin in earnest. Lot's of potential for this to go very badly with this particular defendant in the particular circumstance, IMO. This guy should be at a black site for the duration. Plenty of people are in Gitmo for a lot less and they ain't gettin out.

Yup, and that made it all the more important that the plan was stopped before it could be carried out.

They said the plan was to attack a specific route, not a specific train, so it would've been nearly impossible to stop once it was set in motion.
