IIHF news article on Sekera --> Slovakia’s nimble workhorse; Few players have recorded more ice time than Andrej Sekera.

Quote:
The 2013 IIHF Independent Disciplinary Panel has issued a one-game suspension to Latvia forward Zemgus Girgensons for butt-ending his stick on a Slovak player. Girgensons will miss his team’s next game on Saturday, 11 May against Germany.

The incident occurred during at 15:47 of first period in the game between Slovakia and Latvia on Thursday evening, with the score 2-1 for Latvia. In retaliation to a check by Slovak defenceman Branislav Mezei, Girgensons hit Mezei in the stomach with the butt end of his stick.

Mad about the call? - shouldn't be as it was a legit call - he definiately butt-ended him in the stomach. Yeah he got slashed or badly check but you gotta just take it then and dish it back later - he will learn. Suspension definiately hurt as Latvia only lost 2-0 to Germany yesterday.

TV reminder for Todays United States-Germany game - it will be on NBC Sports Network on a 90 minute Tape Delay - 10:30 am ET. You can watch the game LIVE - 9:00 am ET - online at NBC Sports.com via their NBC Sports LIVE Extra stream. Reason for the delay is NBC Sports Networks is doing LIVE coverage of the Spanish Grand Prix Auto Race thats just started a few minutes ago. Viewers in Canada can watch the United States-Germany game LIVE on TSN2 - although that will only last about a period as come 10:00 am ET - they will be flipping to TSN whose going to showing the Canada-Czech Republic game LIVE.

United States wins 5-2 - Ehrhoff gets one goal and one assist for Germany.

Funny to see Novotny out there doing the same things he did in Buffalo but now for the Czech national team: lose puck battles, head down while cruising through the middle, big but ineffective. Heh. Even weirder seeing him as the captain.

Crawford just called him "offensively dynamic".

Ruff behind the bench, Enroth in net and a game in a shootout? Deja vu.

And Eberle misses? Can it be?

I just posted that over in the GDT. I'm sure he's happy breaking one off up his former coach's tail.
