Must have really struggled to find a new club for him to even consider retirement at 30.

A great grinder in the NHL at one point, and out of all the Swedish players who've been in the NHL Sjöström definitely has the name that has baffled North American commentators the most.

A sad day for hockey.

He didn't even have hands of stone. They were worse.

He was OK, but he didn't help like JayMc/Carlyle

It was the Wilson years though.

I have a lot of fond thoughts of him. None of them ever really came to fruition though. He always seemed like such a cool guy.

Loved him in Phoenix. Feel he could've been better if he wasn't playing under Gretzky.

Changed my number to 20 after watching him play in Phoenix, skated harder than anybody on the team and was tenacious as ****.

Underrated in my opinion, think he could still find a 4th line role on an NHL squad. Great guy too.

Hated him on the Leafs.

In NHL dynasty mode I would always package him, Blake, and Stajan for like a draft pick, hated them with a passion!

wow. surprised to see him retire. the guy always kept himself in great shape and was a very solid defensive forward.

shame his offensive game never came about. he had a few nasty dangles that just wowed you.

He was an okay 4th liner for the Flames. Wish we wouldn't have traded for him in the Phaneuf deal; i would rather have kept Aulie. Hell, I'd take back every part of that deal.

Do you guys think he'll make HOF on his first ballot or will he take a bit longer?

In all seriousness though, wish him all the best with Frölunda

It's quite young to retire. I'm surprised he didn't receive any offer from a SEL team.

Him and Betts made a good combo for the Rangers. Fringe player, but I will miss him. Will not miss his hands of stones though.

If you watched him during his time in SEL you would understand. The guy just wasnt good enough to cut it at that level. Maybe he could have been a decent 4th-liner/PKer on one of the bottomfeeders but thats pretty much it, he probably wanted too much money for any team to give him that role as well.
