Congrats on your draft Vancouver, the trade to get Horvat IMO was great. To follow it up with Shinkaruk was awesome. IMO opinion there are two winners there. Yes I am a Leaf fan but have been a BC'er all my life and frankly was unimpressed with Gillis until today.

I think with what we got today our prospect ranking by team got a bit higher even though it really didn't matter that much.....

So the youth movement now looks like:

Shinkaruk- Horvat- Kassian
Gaunce- Schroeder- Jensen
Archibald- Labate- Weise
Blomstrand- Lain- Mallet
Grenier/Cassels/Friesen

Tommernes- Tanev
Sauve- Corrado
Andersson- Subban
McNally/Hutton/McEneny/Polasek/Cederholm

Lack/Eriksson/Cannata

Forward group looks pretty good depending on Labate, Archibald and some of the question marks like Mallet and Grenier.

Defense is missing a sure fire top 2.

Goalies look pretty solid.

Definitely looks much better now.
D...
While solid...
Still looks a bit weak though.
I really hope a majority of them pan out.

Not too concerned.. yet. Most of our d-men are still in the prime of their careers.

True...
But you would hope there is an offensive d-man in there...
Or a legit top-4.

If we're doing a depth chart here, I'd go with something like:

Quote:
Shinkaruk - Horvat - Jensen
Archibald - Gaunce - Grenier
Blomstrand - Mallet - Beattie
Labate - Cassels - Tochkin
Myron - Lain -
Anthony / Friesen

Andersson - Corrado
McNally - Tommernes
McEneny - Subban
Hutton - Polasek
Cederholm / Liberati / Williamson

Lack
Eriksson
Cannata

- Assuming Shinkaruk shifts to the wing in pros; not including Schroeder and Weise as they're staying in the bigs for good (waiver-eligible).
- Left out Tanev, Price is a wildcard.
- The D group is up for debate. Lots of comparably smart, mobile puck-movers I feel.

I wasn't going by prospect depth, I was going by players under 25.

Forwards look solid, Defense may need work in a couple years, but as long as we have Corrado, Garrison, Edler, Tanev were good. I think Subban, Cederholm will make the NHL. Subban has great skills and skating but needs to bulk up. Reminds me of Ryan Ellis

Subban needs to grow more so than Bulk up. He's already very developed physically, and unless he grows it's gonna be hard for him to add a lot of weight without going full Byfuglien.

Any word on prospects camp?

Invites?

Some decent type bottom 6 prospects were passed over and we have contract slots.

Here's hoping we find some unstaffed gems.

I'd like to invite Jesse Lees (who I'm shocked went undrafted).

I hope we invite Zach Yuen. I'm shocked he didn't get signed by the Jets and then went undrafted again which does pose some questions about his ability, but he's a hometown guy with good stats and apparently plays a Tanev-esque game. Would love to see him get a prospects camp invite.

The camp itself is this month, hopefully. Habs have theirs starting Wednesday. Sens have theirs July 3 onward too. Canucks are doing their tournament thing again in September, but unless that's it, we should see something in the next few days to be on par with the other teams.

Invites so far
VAN:
Miks Indrasis, F, Dinamo Riga/KHL
Daniel Johnston, D, Lethbridge/WHL (training camp)
Ronalds Kenins, F, ZSC/NLA
Cody Sylvester, F, Calgary/WHL

Invites probably go in the coming few days. So I'm sure it will trickle in.

Definitely would like to see Lees invited. Colby Cave, Greg Betzold, and Michael Webster given a shot.

Speaking of which... time for the prospect ticker up top there to be changed.

C'mon mods... this is why you get paid the big money.

Our Prospects and style/type comparables)

Jensen = Top 6 Winger
Shinkaruk = Top 6 Winger
Schroeder = 2nd line C
Kassian = Top 9 wINGER
Horvat = top 6 C
Gaunce = 2nd/3rd Line C
Subban = Offensive Defenseman or Bust
Cederholm = Bottom Pairing Shutdown Defenseman

Just saw we invited Miks Indrasis, dude is a stud... could very well make the team or at least get signed

Training camp should be in September. Prospect/youth camp should be sometime in July, might be a week or so later than usual since the draft was about a week later than usual this year. As said, we should get some kind of announcement soon.
